Rolling Stones News: Mick Jagger’s new movie role, “Some Girls Live In Texas” to screen in theaters

Mick Jagger has a new movie role lined up where he'll play an international media mogul, reportedly modeled after Rupert Murdoch. The film will be called ‘Tabloid,’ and is being made through his own company, Jagged Films.

It's been reported that Josh Olson, who wrote ‘A History Of Violence,’ has been hired on to script the film that will find Jagger playing the lead role. This movie was Jagger’s idea and the storyline will also include a young journalist who gets seduced and plays into the same loss of  morality that Jagger’s character acts out.  Jagger produced other movies, including the 2008 comedy ‘The Women’ and the 2001 wartime drama ‘Enigma.’ Jagger also received producer credits on the Martin Scorsese directed Rolling Stones documentary ‘Shine A Light,’ which filmed the band’s 2006 Beacon Theatre performance during the Big Bang Tour.

Eagle Rock Entertainment recently announced the DVD and Blu-Ray release of The Rolling Stones Some Girls Live In Texas '78. Available for the first time ever on November 21st, Some Girls Live In Texas '78 features Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman live in concert during the 1978 US tour which followed the release of their groundbreaking album, Some Girls.

The Rolling Stones will transport their legion of fans back to the magical summer of 1978 in The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas, a one-night in-theater concert event on Tuesday, October 18th, at 7:30 PM (local time). This tour has never been released via broadcast, cable television or DVD before. The special event will also include an exclusive 20-minute interview with Mick Jagger filmed in August 2011 where he reflects on the fabled 1978 US tour, which is widely believed among fans to be one of the band’s greatest tours and strongest musically.

Presented by NCM Fathom, More2Screen and Eagle Rock, tickets for The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live In Texas are available at participating theater box offices and online at FathomEvents.com.For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

“Fort Worth was an amazing night in a blistering hot July,” said Jagger. “Watching it now, the band was really intense and focused, but we were also having a blast with the fans who were really getting into the show and the new tracks from Some Girls. I think our fans will love the chance to see this concert movie for the first time on the big screen.”

The Rolling Stones: Some Girls Live From Texas will be broadcast to more than 300 theaters nationwide through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. Fathom and Eagle Rock also teamed up for the highly successful cinema presentation of Ladies & Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones in September 2010, which featured classic Stones performances from their 1972 tour.

“It simply doesn’t get any bigger than bringing The Rolling Stones to music fans across the country,” said Dan Diamond, senior vice president of NCM Fathom. “Well-preserved for more than 33 years, audiences will be spellbound by this incredibly rare concert footage as it flawlessly captures the band during one of its most musically riveting periods.”

Some Girls Live In Texas '78 comes hot on the heels of the huge success of 2010's Stones In Exile and Ladies & Gentlemen and marks the next stage in the Eagle Vision / Rolling Stones enterprise. Some Girls Live In Texas '78 will be available on four different formats: DVD, Blu-Ray, plus special edition DVD + CD and Blu-Ray + CD digipack presentations including a reproduction tour program. Bonus features on all formats will include a new interview with Mick Jagger.

Capturing The Rolling Stones at their live best, and fully restored to the highest level of picture and sound quality, Some Girls Live In Texas '78 was filmed at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Forth Worth, Texas on July 18th, 1978 on what many fans consider to be one of the band's greatest tours. This was due to the band's 'back to basics' approach both musically and visually, as the shows were stripped back compared to previous tours, harnessing the new punk rock attitude of the late 70s.

Showcasing many songs from the Some Girls album, celebrated for being the Rolling Stones' most direct and diverse collection of music, and which by the time the band arrived in Texas, had gone to the top of the US charts, this concert demonstrates the sheer force and raw energy of The Rolling Stones live on stage.

Originally shot on 16mm film, the concert footage has been carefully restored with the sound remixed and remastered by Bob Clearmountain from the original multi track tapes.

Tracklisting:

'Let It Rock'
'All Down The Line'
'Honky Tonk Women'
'Star Star'
'When The Whip Comes Down'
'Beast Of Burden'
'Miss You'
'Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)'
'Shattered'
'Respectable'
'Far Away Eyes'
'Love In Vain'
'Tumbling Dice'

New “Spirit Of Maiden” drum kit collaboration with Nikko McBrain from Premier

New “Spirit Of Maiden” drum kit collaboration with Nikko McBrain from Premier

Premier has introduced the "Spirit Of Maiden" drumset, a new kit designed in collaboration with Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain. Since 1993, the relationship between McBrain and Premier has resulted in a series of drumsets created to support Iron Maiden's world tours. This new kit is the first product from Premier that offers fans an affordable drumset officially licensed by Iron Maiden.

The artwork depicts the band's mascot Eddie from the "Piece Of Mind" album — the first Maiden record to feature McBrain on drums. Finished in two-tone metallic grey and silver, the covering is produced in the U.K. at the same facility used for the drummer's personal tour kits. Each drum includes a silver embossed Iron Maiden badge, while the bass drum head includes the Premier logo in Maiden's signature font.

Scott Ian of Anthrax shares story about his friend, Metallica’s Cliff Burton, on the Anniversary of his death

Scott Ian of Anthrax shares story about his friend, Metallica’s Cliff Burton, on the Anniversary of his death

Scott Ian of Anthrax posted the following reflection on his website yesterday: September 27th marked the 25th anniversary of Cliff Burton’s death. I knew Cliff for three years and in those three years became good friends with him and Kirk, bonds that have lasted and stood the test of time. We were the three musketeers when we were together and we got to spend a lot of time together back in those days. We were all coming up at the same time and reveling in our bands, the music, the scene and the lifestyle. We fucking loved Metal!

This is one of the many fine memories I have of Cliff. Add your favorite beverage and enjoy.
