Bruce Springsteen News: Boss dedicates song to Trayvon Martin, NJ Governor Chris Christie want Bruce to play Atlantic City Casino, Awesome Philly footage-crowd surfing and chugging beer with the crowd! (video)
Bruce Springsteen addressed the killing of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager whose recent shooting death at the hands of local neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman is suspected by some of being racially motivated. Bruce said onstage, “This is for Trayvon,” before he and the E Street Band kicked into ‘American Skin (41 Shots)’ at the concert at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday (Mar. 28).
‘American Skin’ was written about the 1999 killing of Amadou Diallo, an unarmed African immigrant who was shot repeatedly shot by four New York City police officers who believed he’d brandished a gun at them. Like Martin, Diallo was unarmed and had reached for a wallet.
On Tuesday (Mar. 27) Christie called on the Jersey rock icon to perform at the new Revel casino in Atlantic City on Labor Day weekend. Christie was touring the casino and said Christie said, “I think Bruce, if he’s true to his lyrics, would love the fact that the state used taxpayer funds to invest in this place to create jobs for working men and women.”
Beyonce will perform at the official grand opening of the casino over Memorial Day weekend.
Here’s more great footage from the Philly show this past Wednesday. There aren’t many artists that connect with their audience like Bruce does. Just fantastic!
