Beatles connection: Semi-Beatles reunion possibility; Paul McCartney’s best man, George Harrison documentary to air on HBO
Could Paul McCartney be planning a Beatles reunion of sorts for the opening ceremony to the Olympics when they are held in London next year? Possibly! Sir Paul nodded recently when asked if he’d be appearing at the event but backtracked, possibly because he spoiled a surprise, explaining, “I hear there’s a rumor that I might be involved.”
When asked about any Beatles music in the ceremony he added, “I hear they’re planning this sort of music.” Meanwhile, a source told England’s The Sun that Paul will likely appear with other big British acts on stage along with Ringo Starr and possibly George Harrison and John Lennon’s children. We’ll be sure to know more by the opening ceremony on July 27th, 2012.
Paul McCartney is engaged to Nancy Shevell and insiders say when the two do tie the knot, Paul’s younger brother Mike will be the best man. PR consultant and Beatles expert John Horan told the New York Daily News that Mike was at Paul’s side during his 1969 nuptials to Linda and again in 2002 when he married Heather Mills. Horan described Mike, who is a year-and-a-half younger than the 69-year-old Paul, as “a very loyal brother.”
George Harrison: Living in the Material World, the new Martin Scorsese-produced documentary about the Beatle great, will premiere on HBO on October 5th. The film includes home movies, unseen footage and interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Phil Spector, Eric Clapton and George himself. A book accompanying the movie will come out in September. It boasts pages of photos, letters, diaries and more.
