"Clockwork Angels: The Novel" (ECW Press, September 2012), the landmark literary collaboration between RUSH drummer and lyricist Neil Peart and bestselling sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson, will be officially launched on Thursday, August 23 at the Richmond and John Chapters (142 John Street) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at 7:00 p.m. Anderson writes on his blog, "I'll be in Toronto as a guest at Fan Expo throughout the weekend, but this event — open to the general public — will be the first time the novel is available for sale. I will give a talk, answer questions, and autograph books… lots of them, I hope!" The U.S. book launch will be held on August 31 at DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia.
Anderson added that he worked with Neil Peart on the book to "flesh out the epic story told over the course of the music," which involves "lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life."

Rush will be honored by musical instrument retailer Guitar Center with a place on their RockWalk. The induction ceremony, which is by invitation only, will take place Nov. 20. The induction will conicide with Rush's tour stop at Los Angeles' Gibson Theater on Nov. 19th. The 'Clockwork Angels' tour kicks off on Sept. 7th in Manchester, N.H.
The Canadian trio will place their hands in cement outside the Guitar Center flagship location on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood for passers-by to gawk at for all eternity.
The RockWalk was created in 1985 by Guitar Center to honor musicians and innovators who have, as their press release states, “made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Blues and R&B.” Unlike other, similar honors, recipients are chosen solely by past inductees, which include Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder and Martin Guitar founder C.F. Martin, III.
Rush singer/bassist Geddy Lee says that his love of wine has led him to serve on the Grapes for Humanity Global Foundation and he’s proud to reveal that the international charity has raised over $4 million via wine-related fundraisers.
The organization began in 2001 with the idea to support landmine victims as founder Arlene Willis lost her brother in a landmine accident. After starting by helping to build prosthetic clinics and aiding those with welfare issues, the organization continued to grow in their philanthropic efforts. Lee recently said: “I was very drawn to it because we did small projects. If we raised $50,000, we’d go to Honduras, build a clinic, and you saw the direct result of that money in action. And that’s something, to me, that makes you feel really good because you know there’s no waste there.”
Lee and bandmate Alex Lifeson have hosted ‘Excellent Adventures’ silent auctions that include wine excursions as part of the package. He explains, “We organized these train trips to the wine country. We get the generous help of a local winery. The first time we did it was in Niagara and Moray Tawse of Tawse Winery offered up this place. We bring people from the city, get a private car through the generous help of VIA Rail, and we take a train up to the winery. We spend the afternoon picking grapes, learning how that particular bit of cultural area operates, and have a fantastic lunch out at the vineyard.”
With a Rush theme the 2009 “Grapes Under Pressure” event raised $37,500, while 2011′s event moved to the Huff Estate Winery in Broomfield, Prince Edward County with 60 wine lovers taking part. In all, the trips combined with the Rush memorabilia offered at the silent auctions have raised over $350,000 for Grapes for Humanity Canada.
Lee says that even though his band priorities are about to take over, he’ll still try to be available for the organization where possible. He adds, “I’ve tried to help them as much as I can in the time I have. It’s a really good group of people who all have a really good heart and try to do something good outside our own sphere of civilization. We’ve raised a good amount of money for a couple of different causes, so I’d like to continue helping them.”
Rush is up first with their amazing new track 'Headlong Flight,' from the 'Clockwork Angels' album, which will be released on June 12th. The over 7 minute track attacks the senses in a way we have come to expect from the band.
Bassist-singer Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer-lyricist Neil Peart have recorded an entire album that follows the same narrative thread — that of a young man's journey to follow his dreams in a dystopian alternate world.
Rush will kick off their North American tour on Sept. 7th in Manchester, New Hampshire, with dates rocking through Dec. 2nd in Houston, Texas. The band will also be this will be headlining the Sweden Rock Festival in June of 2013, their first appearance at a European festival in 33 years! Their show at Sweden Rock Festival will be the only festival appearance in Europe, and the band's first festival appearance since they played at Pinkpop in Holland in 1979. In 2004, Rush played in Sweden for the first time in 25 years, selling out the Globe Arena in Stockholm.

Rival Sons' new video, for the fantastic track 'Face Of Light' is the next Rock Pick of the Week. The video sees a softer side of the band as they go through the beautiful scenery of the Peak District in the English countryside. The video was filmed with director Dan Ruttley during the band's recent sold-out UK tour with Black Stone Cherry.
Frontman Jay Buchanan comments: "I am happy to say that our record Pressure & Time is about to give us our third single with the song 'Face Of Light'. This is a very special song to us and I am delighted to put out a single with a positive message that can still break a tooth. Three singles from one record; I am so thankful for the support we've been shown. This will more than likely be our last single from the P&T record, so it's a fitting farewell to an unforgettable year with a song so personally close to the vest for me."
Rival Sons are ready to kick ass on all the major European rock festivals and have a couple of gigs in June lined up opening for Guns N' Roses in Netherlands and Germany. The band has recently completed recording their second album 'Head Down' in Nashville and it will be released in August on Earache records.
Bruce Springsteen's 'Rocky Ground' is up next from the 'Wrecking Ball' album. The black-and-white clip shows footage of the hands of a number of different people writing out the lyrics of the tune on a notepad superimposed over various urban scenes shot in slow-motion.
The clip was directed by Thom Zimny, Springsteen longtime videographer, whose credits include the 2010 documentary 'The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town.' The Boss makes a brief cameo in the video; see if you can spot him.
We've been traveling over rocky ground and a new day is coming.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played the second-biggest German show of their career on Wednesday (May 30) in Berlin before 55,000 fans. Springsteen played a set focused on new material from Wrecking Ball and an assortment of old favorites, but he opened the night with his first-ever live performance of Wizz Jones' 1973 tune "When I Leave Berlin."
Linkin Park's new album 'Living Things' will be out on June 26th, and the first track 'Burn It Down' is obviously a massive success. It currently sits at #3 on the rock charts, and the band released a video for it last week. Check it out and the 'making of' clip below.
The band's big summer Honda Civic Tour with Incubus kicks off on August 11th in Bristow, Virginia.
Godsmack's cover of the Joe Walsh classic ‘Rocky Mountain Way’ from their 'Live & Inspired' album is up next. The track is rising up into the top 10 of the rock charts, and it's well deserving with their kick ass version of the song for a new generation. The band performed 'Rocky Mountain Way' every night on the recent wrapped Mass Chaos tour with Staind, and now they’ve just released a performance based video for the tune.
My Darkest Days are back with the title track as the next single from their latest album 'Sick And Twisted Affair.' The album was produced by Joey Moi, who has worked with Hinder, Daughtry and Santana. It includes guest musicians John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie) along with Three Days Grace members Barry Stock and Neil Sanderson.
The band has posted part 2 of their behind-the-scenes teaser, and in it they describe the tough personal relationships that served as much of the album’s inspiration. “I think we’ve all been in a relationship before that’s just so toxic,” explains lead guitarist Sal Costa. “You want it to be over, but don’t really want it to be over… Just seeing them with another person eats you alive.” “Humans, we’re all just walking contradictions,” adds Walst. The guys are rocking all summer long with Nickelback, Bush and Seether and continue.
“We listen to all types of music. We take stuff from R&B, hip hop, country and bring it into rock and make it something new,” so says My Darkest Days‘ frontman Matt Walst. The band took Joe & Mystikal’s 2007 Top 40 smash single “Stutter,” added a little sex appeal and re-worked it into a rock banger.
Rush Honored with 2012 Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, watch award show footage and tribute short film ‘Inner Rush’
The National Film Board of Canada in co-operation with the National Arts Centre and the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Foundation on the occasion of the 2012 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards has produced a great short film paying tribute to Rush, one of rock's most successful and popular bands of all-time.
The film 'Inner Rush' shows the positive influence of Rush on a young band, and how that all comes full circle.
'Humility' and 'rock and roll' don't usually appear together, yet the members of Rush (Geddy Lee, Neil Peart, and Alex Lifeson), reflect on a career of making music built on craft, heart and a uncompromised commitment to push the limits - to always 'get better'.
Rush were among the eight honorees at the Governor General's Performing Arts Award gala last Saturday night (May 5). Canada's most prestigious performing arts awards were given out by Governor General David Johnston Friday night, with the winners celebrated at the National Arts Centre at Rideau Hall in Ottawa the next night. The awards are in their twentieth year and have previously been given to William Shatner, Bryan Adams and k.d. lang, among others.
All three members of the band were in attendance. Each laureate received a cash award of $25,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and a commemorative medallion struck by the Royal Canadian Mint.
The choir version of 'The Spirit of Radio' along with the NAC Orchestra's rendition of 'Tom Sawyer' from the ceremony can be viewed below, along with footage Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart receiving their medallion, and the riveting short film 'Inner Rush.'
Rush revealed this week they will release their long anticipated 'Clockwork Angels' album on June 12th. It's the first studio album from the band since 'Snakes & Arrows' in 2007 and their debut for Anthem/Roadrunner Records. The album cover and a video preview trailer with the artwork can be viewed below.
'Clockwork Angels' was co-produced by the band and Grammy Award winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones) who also collaborated with the band on their last studio album, 2007’s 'Snakes & Arrows.' The album was recorded in Nashville and Toronto and the conceptual set will trace a protagonist's journey through a world of steampunk, alchemy and an exotic carnival; drummer and lyricist Neil Peart is also writing a novelization of the album with author Kevin J. Anderson.
Between albums, Rush has kept busy with a series of tours, documenting their most recent dates with the Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland live album and DVD last November. (They also made an appearance as the object of Paul Rudd and Jason Segel's sonic affection in the 2009 film I Love You, Man).
We've already heard a couple of the tracks from the album 'Caravan' and 'BU2B,' which were released in 2011 and recorded during the 'Snakes & Arrows' sessions. The two songs were performed nightly during the wildly successful Time Machine Tour, which ran from June 2010 to June 2011. Work on the new album resumed in the fall of 2011 at Revolution Recording in Toronto after the tour’s finale, with additional strings (arranged by David Campbell) recorded at Hollywood’s Ocean Way Studios earlier this year.
Rush will release the new single 'Headlong Flight' on April 19th and details of a full-scale North American tour to support the new album will be announced shortly.
