Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell stopped by Howard Stern's Sirius/XM radio studios (Nov. 16) to promote his new album, "Songbook," and he topped things off with heartfelt in-studio performances of John Lennon‘s ‘Imagine’ and Led Zeppelin‘s ‘Thank You.’

‘Imagine’ is one of 16 tracks that appear on ‘Songbook,’ a live acoustic album of new songs and some of the best of the Cornell catalog (Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog). Recorded during Cornell’s 2011 spring solo tour, it’s his first live album.

Chickenfoot top the rock picks this week with the second release from the "Chickenfoot III" album. "Three And A Half Letters (I Need A Job)", speaks on the state of America's economy and it's impact on everyday people. People from all walks of life are facing hunger. Sunset Strip legends Steel Panther will release their sophomore album 'Balls Out' November 1st on Universal Republic Records. The latest album features 14 soon to be classics such as "Just Like Tiger Woods," "Gold Digging Whore" and "Weenie Ride." The album also features cameos by Dane Cook on the album opener "In The Future" and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt show up on "It Won't Suck Itself." 'Balls Out' was produced by Grammy nominated producer/mixer Jay Ruston who also produced the band's 'Feel The Steel' debut and has worked with Anthrax, Meatloaf, The Donnas and Morrissey.

Lyrically Steel Panther are solid on this track, being the wordsmiths they are. Lyrics like "I banged 17 girls in a grocery store and never lost my erection", bring the deep truth and growth on this first track follow-up to "Feel The Steel."

Steel Panther continue their regular gigs at House Of Blues in Hollywood and Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas. Steel Panther has been joined on stage by such rock and roll icons as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Paul Stanley of KISS, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Green Day just to name a few. Across the Atlantic, the band has shared arena stages with ZZ Top and rocked an audience of 30,000 at the UK's Download festival. In Germany, 'Feel The Steel' was proclaimed 'Best Debut Album' at the Metal Hammer awards. The band will be heading out on a UK tour with Def Leppard and Motley Crue in December before coming back to start a nationwide tour of the US in 2012. Steel Panther's new single "17 Girls In A Row" is now available for download at iTunes and After downloading, feel free to play it 17 times in a row because you fucking can!

Metal Masters Mastodon released their highly anticipated album "The Hunter" on Sept. 27. The album is available in a variety of formats, from single CD, to Deluxe Limited Edition Package. The first single "Curl Of The Burl" is doing really well for the Atlanta, Georgia band. I would label Mastodon as a modern Black Sabbath, although "Curl Of The Burl" has the sound of an Trouble track from back in the day. The video was directed by Robert Schober with the concept by Brann Dailor. The guy in the video is seriously trippin'. This is one big acid trip:

The official tracklisting for The Hunter is as follows:
'Black Tongue'
'Curl Of The Burl'
'Octopus Has No Friends'
'All The Heavy Lifting'

Soundgarden/ex-Audioslave singer Chris Cornell "The Keeper" is the lead single from the soundtrack to the upcoming movie "Machine Gun Preacher". The movie, which stars Gerard Butler as a former drug dealer who becomes a crusader for hundreds of refugee children in war-torn Sudan, opened on September 23. Apparently the song may be the best part of the movie, because reviews weren't glowing to say the least, and the movie looks to have a short run in theaters, despite it's postive message. You can purchase the "The Keeper" here. A portion of all sales will go directly towards Sam Childer's Angels of East Africa charity.

"Machine Gun Preacher" is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.

Chris Cornell is also looking for a fan in each of 21 cities to photograph his upcoming US 'Songbook tour'. Submit your best photo and win a photo pass, tickets, and more! Black Tide's rocking track "That Fire" is up next. "Post Mortem", is the Miami, Florida band’s second album for DGC/Interscope. The band consists of Gabriel Garcia (Guitar, Vocals), Steven Spence (Drums), Austin Diaz (Guitar), and Zakk Sandler (Bass). Black Tide's sophomore offering has been in the making since October 2009. The band did the demo work at a studio in Kansas with producer Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God), then hit a New York studio with Wilbur and Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne) in May 2010. The resulting album shows continued growth by the band in not only the song writing, but the performance on the tracks. Austin Diaz joined the band in 2008, but Post Mortem marks his first time writing with the band. He is classically trained with years of music school under his belt. According to the band, he has made a huge difference in their wrting and performing style now.

The band just wrapped up this years edition of the 2011 Rock Star Energy Drink Uproar Festival and will be announcing more tour dates soon.

Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction talks to Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello about new solo album

Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction talks to Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello about new solo album

Tom Morello's third full length album as The Nightwatchman, World Wide Rebel Songs, hit stores on August 29. Recently the legendary guitarist sat down for an interview with Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell for FMQB's latest radio special, Inside Tom Morello's The Nightwatchman.

For his third full length album as The Nightwatchman (and the fourteenth album of his influential career), guitar superhero Tom Morello switched up his style. Since 2007, he has used the moniker for his alter ego as a solo folk balladeer, delivering uncompromising protest songs in the tradition of Woody Guthrie and the young Bob Dylan. That identity was recently heard on Morello’s Union Town EP, eight songs benefiting the America Votes Labor Unity Fund, recorded in response to the anti-union bill put forward by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. But on World Wide Rebel Songs, he has assumed the role of front man for a band, The Freedom Fighter Orchestra, and picked up his electric guitar to convey his messages of resistance.

Tom Morello knows a few things about being in bands: As a member of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave, as well as half of the hip-hop agit-prop duo Street Sweeper Social Club, he has won Grammy awards and been part of 30 million albums sold worldwide. But when he went into his home studio in the fall of 2011 to begin work on this project, he didn't have a pre-determined sound in his mind – the musicians expanded his palette, but he wasn't certain where things would go. "I wanted the songs to lead me," he says. "Some wanted to be spooky and atmospheric, some called for more house-rocking arrangements."

Yet in the transformation from one-man acoustic performer to a full-bore, full-band experience, Morello maintains that the foundation of The Nightwatchman remains intact. "What this record has in common with the previous work," he says, "is that its core is about exploring the possibility of finding personal redemption through fighting for justice." In an era of chaos and turmoil around the globe, the voice of The Nighwatchman is needed now more than ever. With so many artists all too willing to abdicate any position of protest and challenge, Tom Morello, and the international concerns of his World Wide Rebel Songs, offer essential tools for the social justice struggles of today.
