Veteran Rock bassist James Lomenzo competing on upcoming season of ‘The Amazing Race’

I know who I'm rooting for on the upcoming season of the Emmy award winning CBS reality show 'The Amazing Race.' It's veteran rock bassist James Lomenzo! Lomenzo, who has played in numerous high-profile rock bands including White Lion, Slash’s Snakepit, David Lee Roth, Black Label Society and Megadeth, will compete with teammate Mark "Abba" Abbattista, 45, a friend and entertainment lawyer. There is a new twist on the show this year with an opportunity for a team to win even more that the $1 million grand prize.

CBS announced yesterday (Aug. 29) that 11 teams that will make up the cast for Season 21 of the reality series. Hosted by Phil Keoghan, the show pits 11 teams, each comprised of two members, against each other on a trek around the world for approximately 25 days. At every destination, each team must compete in a series of challenges, some mental and some physical, and only when the tasks are completed will they learn of their next location. Teams who are the farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination wins $1 million. In a new twist, if the team that wins the first leg ends up as the winners of the entire competition, they will double the prize and receive $2 million.

Marshall of Rock interview: Chatchi Riot of Pop Evil

by on Aug.27, 2012, under INTERVIEWS, LINKS, ROCK NEWS, ROCK TOUR DATES, VIDEO

Grand Rapid Michigan's own Pop Evil have shown that they are really road warriors that truly care about their fans. They are seemingly always on the road or working to further the reach of the great American Rock N' Roll that they deliver. The band is currently on the Trespass America tour in support of their latest album 'War Of Angels' with Five Finger Death Punch, Killswitch Engine, Trivium and more. I had a chance to chat with Pop Evil drummer Chatchi Riot earlier this week while on the way to Oklahoma City.

Pop Evil are wrapping up the Trespass America Tour this week with the final show on the trek in Los Angeles, before heading out on headlining dates that will take them through September, followed by a Canadian tour through October with Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society that wraps up On Nov. 1st. Their busy touring year then wraps up on the Shiprocked Cruise on Nov. 27th with Godsmack, Korn, Five Finger Death Punch, Black Stone Cherry, P.O.D., Dead Sara, Sevendust, Filter, Lit, Gilby Clarke, In This Moment and more.

I first thanked Chatchi for the band bringing it back to how Rock N' Roll videos are supposed be made with their last single 'Boss's Daughter,' written with and featuring Mick Mars of Motley Crue and A LOT of eye candy, before getting the story on the lastest single (and 4th from 'War Of Angels') 'Purple.' We also touched on the band's past legal issues with their former label, who he can't believe he's met, the next album, their home state of Michigan and some football talk. Look out world, Pop Evil isn't going to stop until everybody know their name!

After our conversation, Chatchi (aka Josh Marunde) shared with me that he's a big 80's hair metal fan and let me know that a couple of videos from the band and the music of Slaughter were an important influence on him, as was the band's drummer Blas Elias. Blas is still drumming for Slaughter and is also playing in the Las Vegas production of Blue Man Group.

A three-minute trailer for for the new Deep Purple tribute album 'Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head' due for release on Sept. 25th from Eagle Rock Entertainment can be viewed below. The compilation CD features re-interpretations of classic DP songs from former band member Glenn Hughes, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Chickenfoot, Black Label Society, Steve Vai, Carlos Santana, Joe Bonamassa and more.

There will also be brand new interviews with Deep Purple, with one of the last interviews with the late Jon Lord. Look for previously unpublished photographs and artifacts from the archives in the magazine as well.

After hearing of Jon Lord's passing, Glenn Hughes assembled some friends to cut 'Highway Star' as a tribute to his dear friend. Drummer Lars Ulrich of Metallica, who are also recording a song for the upcoming Ronnie James Dio tribute album, has previously said, "We were asked if we'd contribute to the anniversary of 'Machine Head' — we can't turn that down. We're circling the Dio and PURPLE catalogs and hopefully we'll come up with something that is worthy of these wonderful men."
