Chickenfoot posted a 10 minute video from the opening night of the Different Devil 2012 tour. Go inside the soundcheck, show and aftershow of their gig on May 4th in South Lake Tahoe, NV!
Drummer Chad Smith rejoined Chickenfoot onstage for the first time on the tour in support of their latest album, 'Chickenfoot III' on May 16th at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre. Kenny Aronoff has been handling the drumming chores due to Smith’s commitment with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Earlier in the set before Chad jammed with the band, Sammy Hagar made a passing reference to him, joking that, "if Chad was here, I’d kick his ass." After the band left the stage, a man in a Kiss t-shirt and backwards baseball cap sat down behind Aronoff’s drums. The fans then realized that it was Smith, and went nuts.
The band proceeded to jam on 'Oh Yeah’, after which Hagar turned to Smith and said, "Chad, you haven’t had this much fun all year and you know it." They then broke into a cover of Jimi Hendrix‘s 'Foxy Lady' with a bit of 'Manic Depression' thrown in. That was followed by 'Different Devil,' then a tribute to the late Ronnie Montrose with a cover of 'Rock Candy,' with Aronoff helping out on the cymbols.
Who says the great American rock festival isn't back? Well, at least in one place it is, and that place is Rock On the Range 2012 in Columbus, Ohio on May 18, 19 & 20. This lineup is the best in the six year history of Rock On the Range, and the best lineup for any single venue festival that's happened in the U.S. in years.
"Incubus is stoked to be joinin' the killer lineup at Rock On The Range this year. We'll see y'all in Columbus, said Brandon Boyd from festival co-headliner Incubus.
"If you thought last time was a blast, then this time we are gonna blow your f#@*ing mind," says co-headliner Rob Zombie.
The weekend will kick off with the Friday Night 4Play, which comes FREE with every Rock On The Range weekend ticket purchase. The May 18th party will feature performances from Foxy Shazam, Hairball, Hells Bells and more.
Here's the Lineup for Rock On The Range 2012:
Five Finger Death Punch
Theory Of A Deadman
Escape The Fate
Black Stone Cherry
Falling In Reverse
Eve To Adam
Ghosts Of August
Tickets for the festival go on sale February 10, at 10:00 am EST at the festival’s official site, as well as through Ticketmaster, and at the Crew Stadium Box Office. Weekend general admission tickets start at $99.50 (plus service and transaction fees.) A limited number of layaway tickets are available through February 23, and VIP packages will also be sold at the Rock on the Range site.
Rock Picks of the Week: Van Halen, Black Stone Cherry, Shinedown, Pop Evil, Sebastian Bach, Lenny Kravitz
First up is the new Van Halen track 'Tattoo', which comes from the new album 'A Different Kind Of Truth'. The album will be released on February 8th, and although the reviews on this first single are mixed, how can I not put the new Van Halen in Rock Picks of the Week? Personally, 'Tattoo' seems to be Van Halen's attempt to maximize airplay with a radio friendly track that could be construed as being as mass appeal as possible. I would have preferred a more 'in your face.' kick ass track to introduce the album, but that obviously wasn't the consensus decision in the VH camp. Some online observations from those that have heard the entire album say that the rest of the album has some seriously rocking tracks, and I have got to think that is the case. I can't wait to hear the full album. Van Halen kick off their tour Feb. 18 in Louisville, KY at the KFC Yum! Center.
Black Stone Cherry are back in the Rock Picks of the week for the third time with another track from one of the top rock albums of 2011, 'Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea.' 'In My Blood' could very well surpass the ascent of 'White Trash Millionaire' and 'Blame It On the Boom Boom' on the charts, as the track is already nearly Top 20 on the rock charts. It's another great track, from a great album and a fantastic American Rock Band!
Let's all request the song on our local rock radio stations and jack it up even more!
Road Warriors BSC will be back on the road in the U.S. with Cavo starting Jan. 30 in Omaha, Nebraska. The guys will keep it going with a headlining trek in Europe starting in March. Keep kicking ass guys!
Shinedown are back with their new track 'Bully.' The anti-bullying anthem come from their upcoming album, 'Amaryllis,' to be released on March 27 from Atlantic Records. 'Amaryllis' sees Shinedown joining forces once more with producer Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day), who previously collaborated with the band on 2008's hugely successful 'The Sound of Madness.' They recorded at Cavallo's Lightning Sound studios outside of Los Angeles as well as a pair of Hollywood landmarks, Ocean Way Recording and Capitol Studios.
"I've always seen Shinedown as its own entity – this living thing that's been growing and developing and evolving over the past 10 years," said frontman Brent Smith. "During the recording, the vision of what Shinedown is and where it's going became completely clear. Amaryllis is the manifestation of that vision, the centerpiece of what Shinedown is. It reflects on everything we've done and where we're heading. It's a message of empowerment, perseverance, and inspiration that I think speaks to fans that have been with us since the beginning as well as those who are just learning about who we are and what we're about. I can't wait for the world to hear it."
The song is already nearly Top 10 at rock radio. Shinedown kick off a tour of Germany and the U.K. on February 1st in Hamburg.
Michigan rockers Pop Evil have released another kick ass track from their latest album 'War Of Angels.' The sexy 'Boss's Daughter' is hell on heels! The third single from 'War Of Angels' was co-wriiten with Mick Mars of Motley Crue. Leigh Kakaty (vocals),Tony Greve (guitar), Davey Grahs (guitar), Dylan Allison (drums) and Matt DiRito worked their asses off in 2011, and they will continue to keep the momentum going into 2012 with another great track and continuous touring. These guys deserve all the success they have gotten and continue to build on the Pop Evil brand. I am really liking what the band are bringing and want to see them live, as I haven't done so yet.
Pop Evil have released a deluxe version of 'War Of Angels' on iTunes with 4 tracks not on the original album and kick off yet another tour on January 19 in Ottawa, Illinois.
The band have to be happy that Michigan Wolverine quarterback Denard Robinson is coming back to the big house for his senior year. They are huge Wolverine fans, and even wrote a song in tribute.
Sebastian Bach is up next with 'Tunnelvision', the second track released from his great album 'Kicking & Screaming.' Seb wrapped up 2011 in fantastic fashion, opening up for Guns N' Roses on New Year's Eve in Las Vegas. Bach will continue to be busy in 2012, starting with some gigs singing with the Steve Stevens (Billy Idol) Band at Iridium Jazz Club in New York City on Friday Jan. 27th, Saturday the 28th & Sunday the 29th. There will be a live webcast at 8 and 10pm for the Jan. 28th concert at iridiumlive.net. Bach will continue his solo headlining dates on Feb. 2nd in Baltimore, Maryland.
Lenny Kravitz has released "Push', the second single from his latest album 'Black And White America.' It's an inspirational song inspiring us to keep pushing, to find our place, find our way home.
Lenny has a big 2012 in store. Besides a U.S. tour coming up, he participated in Amnesty International's latest music project, 'Chimes Of Freedom: The Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.' Lenny recorded "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" for the collection, which will support Amnesty's life-saving human rights work. You can also see Lenny in the highly anticipated movie version of 'The Hunger Games' as Cinna on March 23rd. It promises to be one of the movies of the year. Lenny was great in 'Precious,' and he was recently featured in yet another hilarious 'Funny Or Die' video, 'Lenny Kravitz Is Angry.'
Lenny kicks off his North American tour on Jan. 27th in Boston. Here's the dates:

Rock Picks of the Week: Megadeth, Black Stone Cherry, Cavo, SuperHeavy, Tracie Hunter f/Joe Elliott & Phil Collen
Megadeth are up first this week with their new track "Public Enemy No.1". It has that in your face crunch that you would expect from a Megadeth track, and is probably the most radio friendly of the album tracks I have heard so far. The band are getting set to release their new album "TH1RT3EN" on November 1st.
The album was recorded at Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine's Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California with producer Johnny K (John Karkazis), who has worked with Disturbed, Sevendust, Machine Head and Staind. The artwork was created by artist John Lorenzi, who worked on the last two Megadeth studio albums, 2007's "United Abominations" and 2009's "Endgame", as well as the band's 2007 box set, "Warchest".
Dave Mustaine is incredibly proud of the music put forth on the new recording, saying, "This record is the culmination of my work over the 13 records I recorded. There are moments on TH1RT3EN that capture my every emotion, and other moments where I am releasing feelings I never knew existed! My proudest moments of my musical career are captured on TH1RT3EN.”
"TH1RT3EN" also marks the recorded return of bassist David Ellefson who was part of the band's classic lineup from 1983 to 2002. In a move that delighted the band's legion of diehards, Ellefson returned to performing live with Megadeth in early 2010 and has remained a fixture on the stage ever since. This is the first time Ellefson has played on a Megadeth record since 2002's "Rude Awakening".
The title has several levels of meaning, which Dave Mustaine, who first picked up an axe at the age of 13, revealed in a recent chat with RollingStone.com, saying, "I was born on September 13th; this is my thirteenth record. It just seemed like it was the right thing to do to call it TH1RT3EN."
Megadeth have made it official and confirmed the rumors that they are going to resurrect the Gigantour in 2012.
Aside from Megadeth, the tour will feature Motorhead, Volbeat and Lacuna Coil, who were all personally picked by Mustaine. The tour will kick off in early 2012 with dates tentatively set for late January through early March. Gigantour was founded by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine in 2005 and was last in the U.S. in May 2008
Megadeth filmed the "Public Enemy No. 1" video on September 17 in Santa Clarita, California. The clip was shot on a movie set where old Westerns are filmed. The video has yet to be released, so you'll have to make due with the audio for now.

Kentucky rockers Black Stone Cherry have released the second single from their third album, "Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea." "Blame It On The Boom Boom" was originally one of the tracks made available for free download when the album originally came out at the end of May.
The band have been touring machines since the album release, hitting both sides of the Atlantic for extensive dates. BSC just recently wrapped up the Carnival Of Madness Tour in the U.S., and our getting ready to kick off a headlining European tour on October 21. That will carry them through until hooking up for a U.K. tour with fellow Carnival Of Madness tourmates Alter Bridge and Theory Of A Deadman. It's going to kick off with a show in Birmingham on November 22nd and continue for six shows around the country, then the band will continue with more solo U.K. gigs into December.
The new video was shot at Download Festival 2011, check out the nice visual near the end of the video.
Cavo are back with a new track and new video for “Thick As Thieves." It's the first single and title track from their upcoming sophomore album on Eleven Seven Music to be relased in February of 2012. The song is the follow up to the band’s #1 rock single, “Champagne” from their debut album "Bright Nights Dark Days."
The video was directed by Frankie Nasso, who has helmed videos for Chevelle, the RZA, Hellyeah, and All That Remains, the video features the band performing on a hi-rise rooftop in their hometown, St. Louis.
“When we made the video for ‘Thick as Thieves’ we wanted to convey a sense of reality to our fans…. The behind-the-scenes clips give a taste of our true personalities, while the performance footage shows how we create a single unit when we’re performing together. We’re four different guys, but when we play we’re one,” commented Cavo singer Casey Walker. I'm liking this track, and time will tell if it has the legs of "Champagne."
You can contribute to Cavo's upcoming album cover! It's going to be a collage of candid band shots, some with our fans, some of just us on stage, taken by you…. You can be part of it by uploading your fan pics on their website. Not only will they be selecting the winners from your shots to go on the actual cover, but you'll get a special 'thank you' in the CD credits, too! Submits photos here.
Mick Jagger stands front and center on the next SuperHeavy single, ‘I Can’t Take It No More,’ leading the band through a rather straight ahead, horn-charged rock song that attacks corrupt politicians. Unlike the album's first single, the reggae-heavy ‘Miracle Worker,’ this track serves as a solo showcase for the legendary Rolling Stones lead singer. Josh Stone kicks in with a vocal introduction, then blend into the background as Mick takes over.
SuperHeavy features Mick Jagger, Josh Stone, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley and A.R. Rahman.
Eurythmics guitarist and producer Dave Stewart is behind the two nicely contrasting guitar lines, one big and crunchy, the other clean and echoing, that take turns supporting Jagger’s raspy political rant throughout the proceedings: “All you scurvy politicians / When you’re in our position / You’re promising this / You swear you’ll do that / You all sound like magicians / I can’t take it, take it, I can’t fake it no more.”
Anthony Fantano conducted a lengthly interview recently for Youtube, where SuperHeavy talks about how they all came together, their experimentation with different sounds, and the new album in general. It's a great interview!
Def Leppard's Joe Elliott has collaborated with Ian Hunter's daughter Tracie Hunter on the single, "Junkman". The song is a cover of the 1979 original by Genya Ravan and (Tracie's father) Mott The Hoople frontman Ian Hunter, and also features Def Leppard's Phil Collen on guitar/backing vocals, plus Ian Hunter on backing vocals. It comes from Tracie Hunter’s forthcoming album ‘Vasilisa’.
