‘Inside Metal: Pioneers of L.A. Hard Rock & Metal’ documentary creators kick off fundraising campaign

The creators of 'Inside Metal: The Pioneers Of L.A. Hard Rock And Metal' Documentary Film Series, which features the biggest names of '80's Metal, offers Metal fans a chance to be included in these historical movies!

The early '80s metal scene in Los Angeles has become legendary, as it spawned such worldwide headliners as Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Dokken, W.A.S.P., and originally, Metallica (before the latter relocated to San Francisco). And the new documentary, 'Inside Metal: Pioneers of L.A. Hard Rock & Metal,' chronicles the entire scene.

Directed by Bob Nalbandian and produced by Metalrock Films, 'Inside Metal' features all-new interviews with countless bands and artists that thrived on the scene, and tell its story, first hand. To ensure that this killer documentary receives the attention it deserves, a fundraising campaign has been set up at WWW.METALROCKFILMS.COM - which will help strengthen the film's distribution, marketing and promotion.

This groundbreaking movie features exclusive and candid interviews with members of Metallica (Lars Ulrich), Ratt (Stephen Pearcy), Dokken (Don Dokken), Quiet Riot (Carlos Cavazo), W.A.S.P. (Chris Holmes), Megadeth (David Ellefson), Great White, (Jack Russel), Y&T, (Dave Meniketti), Stryper (Michael Sweet) and Armored Saint (Joey Vera).

'Inside Metal' is about giving fans the real inside story from the behind the scenes world of metal and hard rock with in-depth interviews, ultra-rare concert footage and photographs, and an original music score from that era; in this no-holds-barred, never before seen, recollection of untold stories.

Early feedback has been exceptional, including renowned video director Jonas Åkerlund (who has worked with the likes of Metallica and Ozzy) raving, "This film captures an era that catapulted metal into the spotlight and takes the audience on a wild ride down memory lane. After watching it I wanted to get in my time machine and experience those days for the first time. You’re hit with a potent nostalgia, a time I thought we couldn’t get back, not until I saw this film. I can’t get enough of this shit, what an amazing film to watch over and over again, well done!"

Metalrock Films ask - and want - real and serious metal fans to be a part of this historic documentary and spread the word that this was the scene where it all began, ground zero.

"Our Fanbacked campaign will raise the direly needed financial support to bring this film to one and all in the US and Internationally in order to pay for the marketing and promotion to get it noticed by the general public. We want to bring this film to your theatre, town, bar, club and living room! Unite and support us. We have created some one of a kind opportunities for our friends and fans to participate with us in birth of this film. Get your name on the screen and let the world know that you support metal and the bands that create it. Help us tell the story of the music you love and let the world know you love it. Join in the festivities of our, and your, accomplishments by being at the premiere of the movie and interact with the artist that participated in its creation. Commemorate your participation with a plaque, t-shirt, poster or other limited edition merchandise items that says 'Metal Rules.' Keep checking back as we add more tasty premiums."

And thanks to you and your donation, 'Inside Metal' will finally get the true story of the scene heard - worldwide!

New band featuring David Ellefson (Megadeth) and Frank Bello (Anthrax) to release E.P. early next year

by on Dec.15, 2013, under CD/DVD RELEASES, LINKS, ROCK NEWS

New band featuring David Ellefson (Megadeth) and Frank Bello (Anthrax) to release E.P. early next year

After first writing music while traveling together during the "Metal Masters" clinics, fellow bass players Dave Ellefson of Megadeth and Frank Bello of Anthrax have now announced the formation of a new band called Altitudes & Attitude, and will will get a new release next month!

A self-titled E.P. will be released by Megaforce Records on January 14. Listen to the E.P. here

Altitudes & Attitude is:
Frank Bello on lead vocals, electric guitar, 8-string bass guitar
David Ellefson on 4-, 5- and 8-string bass guitars, rhythm guitars
Jeff Friedl (A Perfect Circle) on drums and percussion

"What started out as simple bass ideas quickly developed into some really great songs together", says Ellefson. "Our fans would probably never suspect that a couple of Metal bass players would have songs like these inside of us. It's exciting to write melody with diversity while still pushing the limits of lead-bass playing. Frank's singing, and both of us playing guitars and other instruments, gave us a whole NEW dimension for creative opportunities".

"We thought it would be cool to let fans hear something they wouldn't expect from us — which is what Altitudes & Attitude is", added Bello.

Altitudes & Attitude track listing:
1. Booze & Cigarettes
2. Tell The World
3. Here Again - featuring guest lead guitar from Gus G (Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne)

The Bass Player LIVE! concert will feature an all-star band of rock luminaries performing with Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler, including: Lee Rocker (Stray Cats), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, David Lee Roth), Blasko (Ozzy Osbourne), Buzz Campbell (Lee Rocker), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Corey Taylor (Stone Sour, Slipknot), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Frank Bello (Anthrax), JD Deservio (Black Label Society), Kerry King (Slayer), Rex Brown (Kill Devil Hill, Pantera), Rudy Sarzo (Blue Oyster Cult), Tal Wilkenfeld, Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), and more. Doors for The Fonda Theatre open at 6:30 PM on Saturday, November 9 and the concert begins at 7:30 PM.

The Bass Player LIVE! clinics and exhibitors will be located at S.I.R. Studios on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Bass players of all ages, levels and styles are invited to attend.
The concert and awards show will be hosted by Jim Norton (comedian/actor/radio host/New York Times best-selling author).

“Lee Rocker actually made the standup bass look cool,” Norton says. “Geezer Butler is simply the most underrated bassist and lyricist of all time.”

“Terry ‘Geezer’ Butler is my No. 1 influence and greatest teacher of electric bass in heavy metal music,” Newsted says. “All true metal bassists look up to Geezer as a pioneer and godfather of our chosen instrument. The best, ever.”

“Bass Player LIVE! is the biggest and baddest bass event of the year,” says Bass Player editor Brian Fox. “And this year’s lineup is our heaviest yet. When it comes to hard rock bass playing, Geezer Butler wrote the book. That he continues to perform with every bit of the raw intensity of his early days in Black Sabbath is an inspiration for players of all ages and all styles. With the Stray Cats, Lee Rocker took the upright bass—already one of the coolest instruments ever—and somehow made it even more hip, slapping the snot out of it to codify the sound of rockabilly bass. To our ears, Tal Wilkenfeld personifies the bright future of rock bass. From her work with Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, and Joe Walsh to her fleet-fingered solo work, Tal’s refreshing fusion of jazz, soul, funk, and rock is something we’ve had our ears and eyes on for a long time now. We’re thrilled and honored to have these three artists anchor an evening of amazing performances.”

Megadeth ‘Countdown To Extinction Live’ set for release worldwide on September 24

Last November and December, Megadeth blazed hot on the band’s “Countdown To Extinction 20th Anniversary Tour,” ripping through their entire double platinum 1992 album from start to finish before performing other classics from their recorded catalog. On September 24 (September 23 outside of North America), Tradecraft/UMe will release 'Countdown To Extinction: Live,' a definitive document of the acclaimed, sold-out tour. Recorded and filmed at Los Angeles’ Fox Theatre last December, Countdown To Extinction: Live will be available in several video and audio configurations, including deluxe Blu-ray/CD, DVD, CD, Digital Album, Mastered for iTunes Album, and Longform Digital Video.

In addition to Megadeth’s blistering performance of the entire Countdown To Extinction album, including the essential “Symphony Of Destruction,” “Foreclosure Of A Dream,” “Sweating Bullets,” and “Skin O’ My Teeth,” Countdown To Extinction: Live features all of the other Megadeth classics the band performed at the epic concert, including “Holy Wars” and “Hangar 18” from 1990’s Rust In Peace, “Peace Sells” from the band’s influential, platinum certified 1986 album, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?, and “Trust” from 1997’s platinum certified Cryptic Writings.

Megadeth’s fifth studio album, Countdown To Extinction was recorded in Los Angeles in 1992. American tensions weren’t limited to LA, as the Gulf War was still fresh in people’s minds, the state of the environment was becoming headline news, and out of this turmoil, Megadeth was inspired to create Countdown To Extinction, considered by many to be the band’s best and most accessible album. None of their previous records were as polemical as the sonic missiles launched by ‘Countdown.’ Megadeth laced the songs with acid-tongued commentary about subjects ranging from the futility of war (“Architecture Of Aggression”) to the senseless brutality of caged hunting (“Countdown To Extinction”). “Foreclosure Of A Dream” sampled George Bush’s infamous “Read my lips” speech, making a statement about taxation endangering the American Dream.

In November 2012, Capitol released an expanded and remastered 20th Anniversary Edition of Countdown To Extinction, personally overseen by Mustaine. The 2CD lift-top box and digital release pairs the remastered original album with an exclusive, previously unreleased 1992 concert, recorded live at San Francisco’s Cow Palace.

In a career nearing 30 years, Megadeth has sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning five consecutive platinum albums and numerous accolades along the way, including 11 GRAMMY® nominations. The band’s latest studio album, Super Collider, reunites Mustaine once again with guitarist Chris Broderick, bassist David Ellefson, and drummer Shawn Drover.
