Disturbed’s David Draiman prepares to release album from his new band DEVICE

Device, the new band from Disturbed frontman David Draiman will be releasing their new single 'Vilify' on Feb. 19th. DEVICE, also includes former Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo, and as part of the touring lineup. Will Hunt from Evanescence and Dope lead guitarist Virus. Draiman has described DEVICE as an industrial band in the vein of Ministry and early Nine Inch Nails.

Draiman says, “Crazy! Finally able to talk more about this amazing band. The first single off our debut record debuts at radio on Feb. 19 and we have a tentative release date for the record of April 9." Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include 'You Think You Know,' 'Recover,' 'Hunted' and 'War Of Lies.'

DEVICE filmed a video earlier this week (Jan. 11) for 'Vilify' with director P.R. Brown, who has worked with such artists as My Chemical Romance, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Prince, Audioslave, Motley Crue and SIXX: A.M.

Special guest musicians on the DEVICE album include:
- Terry "Geezer" Butler (Black Sabbath)
- Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Black Country Communion)
- Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine)
- M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)
- Serj Tankian (System Of A Down)
- Lzzy Hale (Halestorm)

The collaboration with Lzzy Hale is reportedly a version of the Lita Ford/Ozzy Osbourne track 'Close My Eyes Forever.' Lzzy told told The Pulse Of Radio how excited she was to be a part of the project. "I'm humbled. My brother (drummer Arejay Hale) was freaking out because my brother and I have been huge DISTURBED fans since (their 2000 debut) 'The Sickness' came out, you know. So this is a huge moment for him and I, like, 'Oh my god, I can't believe this is actually happening.' Got a little fangirl for a second."

Disturbed is currently on hiatus, with Draiman saying at the time that all four members wanted some time to pursue other endeavors. "We've got other things that each of the band members wanted to pursue individually, outside of Disturbed," he said. "There's other businesses we have, there's other interests. We've got futures hopefully to help cultivate for our families and our children, and they can't all revolve specifically around Disturbed." There is no timetable on Disturbed's return, but all four members say they're likely to come back.

Disturbed bassist John Moyer is currently part of Adrenaline Mob, one of drummer Mike Portney's many group projects.

Here's an Artisan News report with Draiman talking about the new project, followed by another praising Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who will be honored later this month at the 2nd Annual Rock & Roll Roast.

Rock Picks of the Week Ketchup: Black Keys, Van Halen, Foo Fighters, Theory of a Deadman, Eve To Adam, Art of Dying

Rock Picks of the Week Ketchup: Black Keys, Van Halen, Foo Fighters, Theory of a Deadman, Eve To Adam, Art of Dying

Since my Rock Picks of the Week have continually turned into the Rock Pick of the month or every three weeks, I must make a commitment to being more diligent about catching up. So here is my Ketchup. Some of these tracks have been out awhile, but I have to give them a pick.

Black Keys 'Gold On the Ceiling'
Black Keys have had another massively successful track with this one, as it's currently the #1 track on the alternative charts, top 5 at adult rock, top 10 at active rock and top 20 on the rock charts. The Keys recently performed it on the MTV Movie Awards as part of a tribute to Johnny Depp, who joined the band on guitar.

The Keys recently filmed an episode of the Travel Channel’s 'No Reservations' with host Anthony Bourdain and have shot a cameo, in full ponytails, for a Comedy Central series 'Workaholics.' They also will continue touring in 2012 with some big time gigs including as headliners at the inaugural Firefly Festival in Dover on July 20-22, New York’s Catalpa Festival on July 28th, Lollapalooza in Chicago on Aug. 3rd, and Montreal’s Osheaga Festival on Aug. 5th. Then they'll head overseas for a few European festival dates, followed by a return to the U.S. in October for a brief West Coast swing a and a gig at the recently announced Austin City Limits festival. They'll finish out 2012 with tours of Australia and Europe.

They are also worthy of a tribute album called 'Black On Blues,' out July 17th, which features such artists as Iggy Pop, Leslie West, Ginger Baker of Cream, Dave Davies of The Kinks and more.

Van Halen 'She's The Woman'

I was glad to see that the band actually put out a video behind this one, compiled from rehearsal and concert footage. I like almost everyone thought the worst when VH pulled those 30 dates from their current tour schedule, but was relieved that they just "simply bit off more than we could chew," acording to David Lee Roth in his recent video message addressing the situation.

Van Halen‘s former bassist Michael Anthony heard DLR's explanation for the postponed dates, but he isn’t quite so sure that is the main reason. Their was a report with tour insiders saying the band members "hate each other" and are "arguing like mad." Sammy Hagar weighed in saying, "I'm surprised it took this long. I predicted this was going to happen a lot sooner … They’re hard people to get along with, those brothers."

Anthony told Classic Rock Magazine: "Everybody’s got their own opinions. Who knows? To me it sounds kinda interesting – if you say you’re tired and you want to recharge your batteries you don’t put 30 shows on sale. If I were a fan I’d be going, 'Why are you putting 30 shows on sale?'"

Anthony also offered a possible explanation for why three days lapsed between the announced schedule changes and Roth’s public statement about them: "Maybe that’s the three days you take to come up with your story?" Despite his assessment, he had kind words for the group. "I wish them well — they put out a great album, they’re a great live band, they always have been," he says.

Would he ever consider rejoining the band? "I don’t know. As time goes on now, less and less. Eddie’s got his son up with him now. The circumstance would have to be right. I was always the never-say-never guy, but I don’t really think about it any more...Chickenfoot, my relationship with those guys is great."

Van Halen have since announced more tour dates in 2013, as well as a tour of Japan. There is also speculation that the guys will be rocking the 2013 Super Bowl. Look for the next single from 'A Different Kind Of Truth' to be 'Stay Frosty.'

Foo Fighters, who have become one of my favorite bands EVER, released yet another song from the 'Wasting Light' album. 'Bridge Burning' follows the lead of all the previous tracks released, getting significant airplay. The Foos haven't released an official video, but here's a video interpretation of the song from the band's 2011 'This Video Sucks Contest; directed by Will Doyle & Richard Peete.

The Foos hit the Marcus Ampithetre in Milwaukee, WI on June 28, before hitting festivals in Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belgium and Netherlands during the month of July. They stop in Belfast, ND on August 21st for a one off U.S. date, then return to the UK for two gigs in late August. The band will wrap up their never ending tour on September 22nd at DeLuna Fest in Pensocola, Florida. Dave Grohl will then focus on completing his Sound City Studios documentary, which I cannot wait to see! Spin Magazine recently brought forth why Dave Grohl is the 'nicest guy in rock.' Check out the reasons why here: www.spin.com

Theory of a Deadman's 'Hurricane' is another great track from the band's latest album 'The Truth Is...'. It has already gone top 5 on the rock tracks, as the band continues building on their past success thus far. Theory of a Deadman will be headlining on tour for the rest of the summer. Check out a date near you here: www.theoryofadeadman.com

Frontman Tyler Connolly recently did a funny little experiment in New York's Time Square called 'You Don't Know Me.' Check out both parts:

New York rockers Eve To Adam are up next with their track 'Reach.' While it didn't have the "reach" I would have hoped as far as radio airplay goes, it did further the band's reach and exposure in a positive way. It comes from the album 'Banquet For A Starving Dog', and is a positive, uplifting song. You can 'Reach,' you just gotta believe, and I believe in this band!

Eve To Adam recently ended a run touring with Creed at the Fillmore on May 31 in Detroit, Michigan, and their currently at home working on new material and preparing for summer shows while promoting their new single, a cover of the Alice Cooper classic, 'School's Out.' The single is now available for digital download and has been getting a very positive reaction from critics and fans alike. The track was even debuted on June 5th by Alice Cooper on his radio show! Get the song here on itunes

Canadian rockers Art of Dying are back in the rock picks of the week with their latest track 'Sorry.' It's another great track from the 'Vices and Virtues' album. The Art of Dying is my life to live. Vocalist Jonny Hetherington and the guys bring quality rock, and I expect continued growth from this band in the future!

Fast Tube

Recently we had the chance to get into the studio with producer Dan Donegan from Disturbed to lay down an acoustic version of "Sorry". We've been so touched by all of the 'Sorry profile pics' over the last few months that we decided to make a video for the acoustic version of the song featuring our biggest fans. Thanks for making this video possible, we couldn't have done it without you!

Record Store Day is coming! Check out 2012 releases, Ambassador Iggy Pop shares vinyl memories (video)

Record Store Day is coming! Check out 2012 releases, Ambassador Iggy Pop shares vinyl memories (video)

Record Store Day 2012 is upon us next weekend (April 21) and a more than worthy Iggy Pop is the 2012 Ambassador. Record Store Day started five years ago when 700+ American indie stores came together to celebrate record store culture. It always takes place on the third Saturday in April. The U.K. followed suit, with 2012 marking its fourth celebration as an independent sector. Similar to the U.S., the U.K. indie stores partner with bands to celebrate art of music with special exclusive releases that are desirable to own and fun to collect. Iggy will be making his own Record Day Store stop at Sweat Records for Sweatstock in Miami, Florida. If you're in the area, get over there!

Check out this fantastic video of Ambassador Iggy sharing his vinyl memories. He talks about his first purchase, working in a record store, and so much more: www.recordstoreday.com

There is an abundance of rock being released again this year, with this list of artists worth noting: 311, Amberlin, Arcade Fire, Aretha Franklin/Otis Redding, Brad, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Disturbed, Eddie Vedder, Flogging Molly, Garbage, Genesis, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Eve 6, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Fallon (Tebowie), Joey Ramone, Little Richard, Mastodon/Feist, Metallica, Misfits, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, Phish, Rainbow, Rival Sons, Small Faces, Switchfoot, T. Rex, The Black Keys, The Byrds, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, The Clash, The Cult, The Grateful Dead, The Knack, The White Stripes, Social Distortion, Lou Reed, Paul Simon, and many more.

Please support your local Record Store! It is more important than you know. With the talk of Best Buy closing stores, and the past bankruptsy of Circuit City, our local Record Stores are one of the last places to be exposed to and buy new music in that type of enviroment. Fuck Wal-Mart (and Best Buy and Circuit City for that matter), we need to keep the experience alive of going to a business where they care about all music and care about exposing new artists of merit. The shared experience and coolness of a howntown record store CANNOT go away!!  Get all the info and the stores near you here: www.recordstoreday.com

Let's highlight a few of the releases. Metallica's four-song EP called "Beyond Magnetic", which was made available digitally in December, and as a physical CD in January, will be released on silver vinyl to celebrate Record Store Day on April 21. The effort consists of the quartet of previously unheard tracks that the band unveiled in concert in December during its 30th-anniversary celebration. All four tunes, 'Hate Train', 'Just A Bullet Away', 'Hell And Back' and 'Rebel Of Babylon' were recorded during the sessions for the band's 2008 'Death Magnetic' album but left off the final track list. The studio versions of all four songs- all rough mixes were sent to Metalica fan club members one at a time, after each song was performed live during each of the band's four shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco.

Metallica talks Record Store Day: "We've always been big supporters of our friends at independent retail and the annual event the third Saturday of each April... we even helped kick off the first year in 2008 with an in-store appearance at one of our hometown stores! To add to the fun, this is no ordinary black vinyl release, but instead will be on silver vinyl with an exclusive Metallica sticker included in the package. Look for the EP on the special Saturday release date at your favorite local record store and on Metallica.com."

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release an Ozzy Osbourne seven-inch and 12-inch vinyl release. The Ozzy releases for Record Store Day 2012 are:
-'Live' 12-inch 180-gram audiophile vinyl LPs (two-disc set): A limited, numbered collector's edition recorded live on the 1981 'Blizzard Of Ozz' tour with legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads
-'Believer' live seven-inch single: A limited, numbered collector's edition on polka-dot vinyl featuring 'Believer' (live) + 'Goodbye to Romance' (2010 guitar and vocal mix)

The Cult are releasing a picture disc with tracks from the phenomenal forthcoming 'For The Animals' album.

A vinyl re-issue of David Bowie’s 1972 single 'Starman' will get the special treatment on Record Store Day when it’s re-released as a limited-edition picture disc. The A-side will be the original single version, whereas the B-side will be the version of 'Starman' from the legendary (mono) 'Top Of The Pops' TV performance.

Bruce Springsteen's 'Rocky Ground' will be available as a 45 on Columbia, with the tracks: 'Rocky Ground' and 'The Promise.' 'Rocky Ground' is from Bruce's latest album 'Wrecking Ball' and 'The Promise' is Live from The Carousel, Asbury Park (audio taken from the DVD 'The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town')

Iggy Pop 'Raw Power' 2LP set w/ both the 1973 David Bowie mix and the 1997 Iggy Pop mix, along with a 16 page book.

Janis Joplin's 'Highlights From the Pearl Sessions' will be released by Columbia on 10" vinyl, It's an exclusive RSD vinyl companion to the 2 CD reissue of Pearl (being released as The Pearl Sessions). Highlights from The Pearl Sessions presents an alternate view and an inside look at the Pearl recording sessions, with several previously unreleasd and almost-never-heard alternate takes and early versions of classic songs.

Jimmy Falon's 'Tebowie' will be available for the first time ever. It comes from a parody on his show of a David Bowie impression with lyrics about (now New York Jets quarterback) Tim Tebow. Tracks 'Tebowie' and 'Reading Rainbow.'
