Rolling Stones News: Music to be featured throughout ‘Monday Night Football’ season on ESPN, new vinyl releases out this week
ESPN will be celebrating The Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary during this year's season of Monday night football on their pregame show. "Legend to Legend" will be a unique collaboration with the Universal Music Group that will combine Monday Night Football highlights with classic tracks from thelegendary band featuring Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood.
ESPN is licensing 16 Rolling Stones tracks, spanning the early 1970's release of Exile on Main St. through the mid 2000's A Bigger Bang. The songs will be a mix of popular hits and deep cuts, including "It's Only Rock'n Roll", "Hot Stuff" and "One Hit (To the Body)". Four different songs will be selected per month and will be used for four weeks at a time on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown Pregame show (6:30 p.m. ET), on bumpers and teases within the Monday Night Football game (8:30 p.m.), and in a post-MNF game highlight segment onSportsCenter, ESPN's flagship highlights, news and information show.
"Legend to Legend" will debut Monday, Sept. 10 when ESPN kicks off the 43rd season of Monday Night Football with two games at a special time: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens (7 p.m.) and San Diego Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders (10:15 p.m.). Countdown begins at 5 p.m. The schedule continues throughout ESPN's 16-week NFL schedule, which concludes on Saturday, Dec. 22.
"Legend to Legend" elements will be identified with a branded logo and high-end animation within Monday Night Countdown and SportsCenter, highlighting "The 50 Years of the Stones" and incorporating the band's signature tongue logo.
"We're very proud that the Rolling Stones chose ESPN's Monday Night Football to play a major role in their 50th Anniversary celebration; sports and music fans alike will enjoy the combination of these two pop culture legends – the most successful prime time sports series in the history of television and the world's greatest rock and roll band to supply music for our season-long soundtrack," said Bob Toms, ESPN vice president of production enhancements, who oversees the ESPN Music department.
New York, NY (September 5, 2012)—Live shows from Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones will get the vinyl treatment on September 11 when Eagle Rock Entertainment releases two very exciting packages: a special Vinyl Special Edition edition 2LP/DVD/CD of Muddy Waters And The Rolling Stones Live At The Checkerboard Lounge Chicago 1981, and The Rolling Stones Some Girls: Live In Texas ‘78 2LP/DVD/CD. (Both sets were previously released in DVD/CD formats – Some Girls in November 2011, Checkerboard Lounge in July 2012.) Each set contains an 180g vinyl in a three-panel gatefold sleeve. With audio presented in DTS Dolby 5.1, these sets truly allow fans to fully experience and enjoy these brilliant artists and moments in music. [MSRP $39.98 each]
Considered by many fans to be one of The Rolling Stones greatest tours, Some Girls: Live In Texas was filmed at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas on July 18, 1978. Their stripped-down rock ‘n’ roll glory on full display, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman perform the very songs that skyrocketed the Some Girls album to the top of the US Charts at the time of this concert. The end result steams right off the vinyl. Years later, Wood summed it up by saying, “it was straight-ahead garage rock, hardly a stage-set, no smoke, no big lights, like the Stones going punk.”
The concert presented on Live At The Checkerboard Lounge Chicago 1981 captures a moment-in-time when Jagger, Richards, Wood and Stewart paid a visit to Buddy Guy’s blues club, just prior to a three-night stint at the Rosemont Horizon. The result is one of those magical nights caught on tape and recorded for posterity. Muddy, clearly in charge, invites the Stones one-by-one to join the party. Buddy tears off some jagged lightning riffs. Junior Wells blows some mean blues harmonica. The warmth of the vinyl sound is perfect for such classic soul as this. The songs fly by in a world of honest, unpretentious love-of-the-music. Mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this concert is a rare gem of rock ‘n’ roll and blues history.
Eagle Rock Entertainment is thrilled to present one of the greatest live bands in rock’n’roll history: The Who Live In Texas ’75 on DVD October 9 [Pre-book Order September 14, MSRP $14.98 for DVD, $12.99 Digital Video].
Pete Townshend. Roger Daltrey. Keith Moon. John Entwistle. Filmed in Houston, Texas 11/20/75, it was right at the start of a massive tour of the US to promote The Who By Numbers, their seventh album in their 10th year of existence. With Dolby Digital Stereo sound, this 117-minute 25-song bomb blast - previously only available as a muddled bootleg - has been pridefully restored to its rightful visual and sonic superiority by longtime Who collaborator Jon Astley.
Filmed only five years after what arguably is the greatest live album in rock, Live At Leeds, The Who Live In Texas ’75, lives up to and in some ways actually surpasses its predecessor’s greatness. The Who, at that particular point in time, had achieved an unerring almost magical mystical chemistry. Between the windmilling antics of guitarist Townshend, the mic wire lasso of lead singer Daltrey, the crazed bombastic danger of drummer Moon (1946-1978) and, of course, their secret weapon, genius bassist John Entwistle (1944-2002), this was a truly revolutionary band who changed all the hard rock rules. Even the punks, in the anti-rock star era of the late ‘70s, loved The Who.
The extensive Tommy section…the savage recreations of early hits such as “My Generation” (with its iconic “hope I die before I get old” line delivered in all its lusty nihilistic truth)…the celebrated cover of EDDIE COCHRAN’s 'Summertime Blues'…plus 'Baba O’Riley” and 'Won’t Get Fooled Again' make this a Who fan’s delight.
The Who Live In Texas ’75 tracklisting:
'I Can’t Explain'
'Boris The Spider'
'However Much I Booze'
'Dreaming From The Waist'
'Behind Blue Eyes'
'Tommy’s Holiday Camp'
'We’re Not Going To Take It' / 'See Me, Feel Me' / 'Listening To You'
'Won’t Get Fooled Again'
'My Generation Blues'

Queen News: ‘Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live in Budapest ’86′ to be screened in U.S. theaters, ‘The Great Pretender’ and ‘Greatest Video Hits’ to be released
It was great to see Brian May, Roger Taylor and a projection of Freddie Mercury at the recent closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. Now you can follow that up by checking out a classic concert by Queen on the big screen.
Screenvision, in an alliance with More2Screen and Eagle Rock, brings Queen, one of the world's most iconic British rock bands, to the big screen with the feature presentation of "Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live in Budapest '86." Originally filmed on July 27, 1986, this Queen concert film has been re-mastered for digital cinema in high definition with 5.1 surround sound and features many of the band's most popular tracks, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "I Want to Break Free" and "We Are the Champions."
Part of the hugely successful Magic Tour, this concert is significant because it was the last time Queen toured with their late lead singer Freddie Mercury. It was also the largest stadium concert ever staged at the Nepstadion in Budapest, in front of 80,000 ecstatic fans – three years before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
This special performance is introduced with a 25-minute documentary feature including rare footage – some of which has never been seen before – that gives the inside track on events, following the band from just after their historic performance at Live Aid in 1985 through the year leading up to the concert in Budapest. Using archive footage from rehearsals, interviews with the band in studio and on the road during the Magic Tour, this fascinating feature has been specially created for this new cinema release. Fans worldwide can be part of this celebration of Queen's global appeal as this event is shown in movie theaters across the U.S. in a limited engagement on September 20, 23 and 27, 2012.
"We're delighted that Queen fans across the world will finally have the chance to relive this amazing moment for the band. We knew a stadium concert in Budapest was ground-breaking, but hadn't quite anticipated what a historic night it would turn out to be. The concert looks fantastic on the cinema screen in all its digitally re-mastered glory and the documentary does a great job of setting the scene – it really was an extraordinary time in the band's history." – Brian May and Roger Taylor Go to www.queenonscreen.com to find a screening near you.
A new documentary film chronicling the life, career, and even his solo projects of Freddie Mercury titled ‘The Great Pretender,’ will be available from Eagle Rock Entertainment on DVD and Blu-Ray on Sept. 25th. It was created by the same team behind the fantastic ‘Queen: Days of Our Lives’ BBC documentary and was produced and directed by lifelong fan and expert Rhys Thomas.
Rare interviews with Mercury, concerts, video shoots, and personal material from the singer’s own collection are included, along with testimonials from Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor and band manager Jim Beach.
Film highlights include Freddie and Rod Stewart singing their demo of the unreleased song ‘Take Another Piece of My Heart’ and Mercury’s unreleased collaboration with Michael Jackson on ‘There Must Be More to Life Than This.’ Plus, Mercury appears in some of the archived footage with the Royal Ballet in 1979. Footage is also included of Mercury’s 39th ‘Black and White’ birthday party back in 1985 where the singer and his friends celebrated with a cross-dressing theme party to signify his final year before turning 40. Outtakes from the video shoots for ‘I Want to Break Free,’ ‘One Vision,’ ‘Days of Our Lives,’ ‘I Want It All,’ ‘A Kind of Magic,’ ‘Princes of the Universe,’ ‘Living on My Own,’ ‘Born to Love You,’ ‘Great Pretender,’ ‘Made in Heaven,’ and ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ are also featured.
Coinciding with ‘The Great Pretender” DVD offering will be the ‘Barcelona: Special Edition’ album in which Mercury teamed with Montserrat Caballe for a record that’s been re-recorded with a full 80-piece orchestra and will be issued with the book titled ‘The Great Pretender.’
In more Freddie Mercury news, the Savoy Hotel will host the second annual ‘Freddie for a Day‘ charity event Sept. 3, with proceeds aiding the Mercury Phoenix Trust to fight AIDS worldwide. ‘The Great Pretender’ film will screen three days later (Sept. 6) at BAFTA.
A re-packaging of Queen's two greatest video hits releases into one box set will be available on Aug. 28th. 'Greatest Video Hits' features 33 promo videos and new commentary from Brian May and Roger Taylor. All the videos have all been restored and mixed with DTS Surround Sound. The first disc includes the band's '70's hits and disc two will include works from the band’s 1982 album ‘Hot Space’ through the 1989 project ‘The Miracle.’ All 33 videos were previously released in individual 2002 packages.

Reuniting for the first time since their collaboration on Black Sabbath’s 1983 Born Again album, Deep Purple´s Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi took everybody by surprise in 2011 when they released the charity singles,'Out Of My Mind' and 'Holy Water.'
For the recording of these songs, the two rock legends called a few friends, asking for some “help.” Jason Newsted (Metallica), the late Jon Lord (Deep Purple, 1941-2012), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), and Linde Lindström (HIM) completed the supergroup WhoCares.
Now, 'Out Of My Mind' and 'Holy Water' will be featured in a special 2 disc set of rarities and recordings culled from the careers of Iommi and Gillan. The WhoCares double CD will be released in North American on August 28th through Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Amongst the tracks are the two original WhoCares songs, Deep Purple’s unreleased studio jam Dick Pimple, a song from Repo Depo (a band Ian Gillan formed before the Deep Purple reunion) which never released an official song before this CD. Also included is 'Zero The Hero,' from the aforementioned Black Sabbath Born Again release (which is the only album to feature Gillan on lead vocals), as well as two unreleased songs from Tony Iommi featuring Glenn Hughes.
The Out Of My Mind and Holy Water singles were a joyful and inspired moment from two musicians with nothing to prove, willing to support music where music is considered a luxury. The spark to bring Iommi and Gillan in a studio together again was to finance the rebuilding of a music school in Armenia they had visited together on various occasions in past years.
“As I said once in the song Razzle Dazzle, it’s a real fine line between an orgy of destruction and a wonderful time,’” states Gillan. “The destruction of conformity in this case: some of these pieces never really fitted into their contemporary program and got sidelined or forgotten, and some of the album tracks never had much exposure. As the track listing for this album came together, I noticed many of the titles had character similarities: a combination of freshness as they finally felt the sun on their backs and rebellion in a ‘yeah told you so’ kind of way. And that adds up to a wonderful time and more money for the music school we are building in Armenia."
“The ad-hoc benefit WhoCares band,” continues Gillan, “was a band put together by Tony Iommi and myself on a flight home from Yerevan, where we’d been deeply humbled by the honor and expectation bestowed upon us. Well that’s it really, in a nutshell, so to speak, what more can I say? It’s all there in the music.”
The release of this very special 2 CD set is a must for all Deep Purple fans and fans of hard rock.
