New book: ‘Not Just Tits In A Corset: Celebrating Women In Metal’ now available

'Not Just Tits In A Corset: Celebrating Women In Metal' is a new book now available from music writer/band manager Jill Hughes Kirtland. The book features photos and interviews with some of metal’s most notable women, looking at their triumphs, challenges, and unique stories.

Featured rockers include Lita Ford, Roxy Petrucci (Vixen), Ann Boleyn (Hellion), Betsy Bitch (Bitch), Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) Leather Leone (Chastain), Maria Brink (In This Moment), and many more. It also features a foreword by German metal queen Doro Pesch (Warlock, Doro).

Told in their own voices - through a series of intimate interviews and photographs of prominent and influential women in the metal industry - "Not Just Tits In A Corset" details the unique history, challenges and triumphs women have encountered throughout their careers in metal music, while also celebrating the compelling global community these women have created amongst each other and the fans. It's not just musicians featured, but the women behind the scenes also tell their stories, all of them offering inspiration and support to the up-and-comers.

The book is available now as in hardcover, softcover or e-book on the Kirtland's web site: www.jillkirtland.com and will be available through other online retailers soon. A book launch party open to the public (all ages) will take place on Thursday, April 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at Roxy & Duke's Roadhouse in Dunellen, New Jersey.

Halestorm to release second E.P. ‘ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP’ on October 15

by on Sep.12, 2013, under CD/DVD RELEASES, LINKS, ROCK NEWS

Halestorm to release second E.P. ‘ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP’ on October 15

Halestorm will release their new EP, 'ReAniMate 2.0: The CoVeRs eP,' on October 15. It's the second EP of covers from the band, following up 2011’s 'ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP.' The bands covered on the new release include Judas Priest, AC/DC, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac, Marilyn Manson, and Daft Punk.

“Like our first ReAniMate EP, the songs included here are a collection of both our favorite songs and songs to challenge ourselves,” said Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale. “We decided to go more ‘bare bones’ with this EP, meaning minimal production with live, gritty performances. We recorded this EP the week of the Grammys, so the excitement and debauchery you hear through your speakers is very real. We hope all our fans have as much fun with ReAniMate: 2.0 as we did!”

Halestorm will be touring the U.S. in early October, then hook up with Alter Bridge for a European trek, followed by more U.S. dates to wrap up 2013. For more info go to: www.halestormrocks.com

Rock Picks of the Week: Alter Bridge, Beware of Darkness, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Halestorm, Los Lonely Boys

Rock Picks of the Week: Alter Bridge, Beware of Darkness, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Halestorm, Los Lonely Boys

Already one of the most respected and popular acts in rock, Alter Bridge are back with the new track 'Addicted To Pain' from the band's new album 'Fortress.' The new album is due out October 8 in the USA and September 30th for the rest of the world. The album is their first new studio album in three years, and features twelve tracks that are sure to take Alter Bridge to an even bigger level if that is possible.

Myles Kennedy (vocals), Mark Tremonti (guitar), Brian Marshall (bass) and Scott Phillips (drums) enlisted their long-time producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette, known for his work with Falling In Reverse, Story Of The Year and Incubus to once again deliver another great album of hard and heavy rock, along with tracks that show the softer side of the band and the beautiful vocal melodies.

Alter Bridge will play one U.S. tour date on October 4th at the House of Blues in Orlando, Florida, before embarking on a European tour that will run from October 16th through November 16 and feature Shinedown and Halestorm joining the band on select dates.

Guitarist Mark Tremonti said about the project, "When we started pre-production on this album, we pushed ourselves harder and further than we ever have previously in order to make the most out of every individual arrangement. We wanted this album to be our most unpredictable and exciting one yet. From the early feedback we have received, it looks like we have achieved what we set out to do."

I'm sure the results will show that Mark is right, as Alter Bridge are set to be dominant in the rock world once again and are going to have a huge 2013-14!!

Alter Bridge - Fortress Track Listing

Beware of Darkness are a new power trio consisting of vocalist/guitarist Kyle Nicolaides, bassist Daniel Curcio, and drummer Tony Cupito. The band's track 'Howl' has an indie spirit, with an in your face retro vibe that I and apparently many others are digging, as the track is currently in the top 5 of the Mainstream rock and Active rock charts in the U.S. It comes from the band's new album 'Orthodox.'

Beware of Darkness came together in 2010 after Kyle Nicolaides met Tony Cupito at one of Kyle's shows in downtown Los Angeles. The two began playing shows with various bass players until they met Daniel Curcio, who was visiting Santa Monica after finding out he had a long lost half brother living there. Nicolaides then signed a record deal with Bright Antenna Records and the band started opening up shows for the likes of Social Distortion and The Wombats. They have since opened for Tegan and Sara, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, Deftones and played at the 2012 & 2013 SXSW Festival.

In July, Beware of Darkness opened up for The Smashing Pumpkins on their European tour and are currently on the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival in the U.S. with Alice In Chains, Jane's Addiction, Coheed and Cambria, Walking Papers, Danko Jones and more.

A band with a big future, I am expected a good run with the new album from the band and touring well into 2014.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd will be releasing his first studio album in 7 years "Fight For My Soul" on September 2nd in the UK and Europe through Mascot Label Group and on September 17th in U.S. and Canada with Concord Music Group. Lang worked on the release for three years with Producer Tommy Sims, who co-wrote Eric Clapton's Grammy winning "Change the World."

Lang says about the album, "Much of what I've experienced through music and life in general is in these songs. I really like reaching out and connecting with people. For me, this is what it's all about. It keeps it fresh with different experiences every day."

"This particular record has taken quite a long time to finish for a lot of different reasons, Lang added. "Most of all, I started having kids a few years back. Between being with the family, and being out on the road touring, the last thing you want to do when home is to go make a record. I'm really happy with the body of work we have for this one. It's kind of hard to be excited and know what the record going to be like when the process is extended over such a long period of time. Today, sitting here, I'm really proud of the recordings.""

Since the release of his 1997 major label debut "Lie To Me", the then 16 year-old Lang has built a reputation as one of the best live performers and guitarists of his generation.  The exciting new album should broaden his appeal and bring in new fans, while keeping the core he already has.

The first track released from the album, 'Blew Up (The House),' showcases the stellar vocals of Lang and the musicianship of his band, along with a Clapton vibe that you can really feel from the production work of Sims.

Halestorm have had one hell of a 2012-13 behind their 'The Strange Case Of...' album and frontwoman Lzzy Hale has firmly entrenched herself as one of, if not THE predominant leading woman in rock. The band were also awarded their first Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance this past February, some exciting recognition for the well deserved and constantly touring Pennsylvania band.

'Here's To Us' looks to be the last single from the current album and in the video for the song, Halestorm are initially transformed into a '8o's band with the big hair, spandex and eyeliner. That is followed by the band in grunge era attire, then the band wrap up the video for the track as they are, showing an appreciation for what has come before and influenced them. The video serves as a thank you for the fantastic last couple of years it has been.

The band released the following statement about the track and video:
"Here's to Us" is a song that we wrote for Us, About Us. It was the last song written for our record The Strange Case Of... Halestorm , and one that means the most personally. We've had a hell of a year, with a few number ones, a grammy, etc... plus this year marks our Tenth year as a foursome! We've been through a lot together as a band, and have always appreciated the low times as well as the high times, because it's about the journey for us. This sentiment has seeped its way into our fans base, who we've become very close to. It's been wonderful to hear the stories every night of what "Here's To Us" means to them! And also our road family, some of these wonderful people, including Maria Brink from In This Moment, Miles Kennedy of Alterbridge/The Conspirators, James Michael from Sixx Am, Brent Smith from Shinedown, Tyler Connolly from Theory Of A Deadman, David Draiman from Disturbed/Device, and of course Slash himself have joined us for special versions of this song!

The video is a little bit of everything Halestorm: we laughed our asses off, and also got a little emotional while filming it! We hope you enjoy it and that this song burrows itself deep inside your heart! From all of us in Halestorm, Thank You to all the Freaks and all the people that have made our Dream possible! Love you all!

- Lzzy, Arejay, Joe and Josh

We love you too...keep kicking ASS!

Los Lonely Boys are back with a new track 'Blame It On Love.' Guitarist Henry Garza recently told antimusic.com that the song "It is the first taste of this batch of new music we have recorded during our touring breaks. We picked this track to be the first to be released because we felt that this song really took us back to our Texican roots, and it was a song that almost anyone could connect with. The real inspiration behind this song was love, and we were looking for a way to say that love is the reason for everything. In all honesty, who hasn't had a situation where they could blame the outcome on love!? If we really pay attention, everything we do is motivated by love.

As for the actual recording of the track, the track was recorded in Austin, TX at Bismeaux Studios. We worked on this track with Don Gehman, and that was awesome. He has worked with so many greats (John Mellencamp, R.E.M.), and it was a humbling experience to be in the studio with him. Don just has a way of knowing how to make a track pop, and he did that with "Blame It On Love."

Overall, it was a great experience laying this track down, and we are very excited to share this new collection of songs. We are extremely blessed to continue to have the opportunity to spread the gospel of Texican rock and roll, and we hope that you like what you hear!"

The brother Garza will be touring through the rest of the Summer, with concerts booked into November. Get all the dates at loslonelyboys.com
