Twisted Sister News: Celebrity Apprentice recap, Guitarists talk band roots, Dee Snider’s parents – a lifelong love affair (video)
It was a good and bad night for Dee Snider on 'Celebrity Apprentice.' There were two tasks on Sunday night's (Apr. 1) special three hour episode, plenty of drama, tears, yelling and the closest competitions in the history of the show.
Teams raised several hundred thousand dollars selling New York City guidebooks they put together and soliciting donations, but in the end it was the men's team that won, with project manager Dee... by $14.00. This led to understandable tension in the boardroom, where ultimately Debbie Gibson was eliminated.
Dee's team collected over $162,000 and also received what was donated to the female team by winning the challenge. He was albe to donate $325,000 to his charity the March Of Dimes, by also being awarded the competing teams donations for winning the task.
"Dee is a true champion for all babies," said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March Of Dimes. "We are blessed to have a volunteer like Dee Snider. He is both an exceptional March Of Dimes volunteer, and a wonderful person. We are thrilled by the generosity of his time and donation. These funds will directly support our mission to give all babies a healthy start in life and our National Prematurity Prevention Campaign." Dee has a personal connection with the mission of the March Of Dimes because two of his four children were born prematurely.
This month is the March Of Dimes signature fundraiser, March For Babies, that will take place at the end of April in nearly 900 communities across the country. To help support Dee's charity anyone can join a walk by visiting MarchForBabies.org. The money raised will support March Of Dimes research, education and community programs to help moms have full-term, healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.
Dee Snider has been a March Of Dimes volunteer, supporting Bikers For Babies, for more than a decade. If you ride, Bikers For Babies events will take place throughout the country, with most occurring September 15 or 16, 2012. Each ride to benefit babies is about 70 miles long, with every mile counting to help fight premature birth and give every baby a healthy start in life. Visit BikersForBabies.org to find a ride near you.
The March Of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide, and its premier event, March For Babies, the March Of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
For the second task on the show, Donald Trump mixed up the teams. The task was a fitness for Walgreens competition, and ultimately Dee's team lost, and because he was in charge of signage and the Walgreens execs didn't feel that theirs was very exciting, Dee was fired. This despite the fact that team captain Lou Ferrigno oversaw and approved what Dee had done. Lou really should have been fired, I just didn't get how Dee could go from winning the previous challenge, to exiting the show on after the next.
It was fun to watch the tension between Aubrey O'Day and Arsenio Hall on the new Unanimous team. Clay Aiken and Arsenio both attacked O'Day's character, and it was justified in my opinion. After the boardroom meeting, O'Day apparently decided she wanted to quit. E! Online says she should have been fired, while EW says it's all a fakeout to build drama and she'll be back next week. She bugs and needs to go. I'll be rooting for Penn Gillette. Watch the full episode and Dee's departure:
D'Addario Strings recently conducted an interview with 'Backstage' with Twisted Sister guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda. They discuss the roots of their art, classic guitar solos and all the projects coming up for the band.
Check out this Newsday piece on Dee’s parents, Bob and Marguerite Snider, highlighting their tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day at White Castle, as well as how they remember the many years of their enduring marriage. Ironically there is no footage of Dee, but we see where Dee gets his sense of compassion, dedication and stabilty, as he parents obviously were instrumental in instilling those qualities.
Gotta give it up for Dee Snider, recording artist, actor, author, broadway star, and reality rocker. You may have been hearing about Dee and the new Celebrity Apprentice cast hitting the street of New York City performing some of the tasks the Donald has "Trumped" out.
It's been announced that the two-hour premiere of the new season of The Celebrity Apprentice will air on Sunday, February 12, from 9-11pm (Eastern) on NBC. Dee Snider will reportedly be going head-to-head with other contestants (each playing for their chosen charity) including Clay Aiken (American Idol singer); Marco Andretti (race car driver); Adam Carolla (comedian); Tia Carrere (actress); Lou Ferrigno (actor); Debbie Gibson (singer); Teresa Giudice (from Real Housewives of New Jersey); Victoria Gotti (mob wife/reality TV star); Arsenio Hall (actor/comedian); Penn Jillette (magician); Lisa Lampanelli (comedienne); Dayana Mendoza (Miss Universe 2008) Aubrey O'Day (former Danity Kane singer); George Takei (actor/Mr. Sulu of Star Trek); Paul Teutul, Sr. (motorcycle designer/TV star); Cheryl Tiegs (model/actress) and Patricia Velásquez (model/actress). Dee made an appearance on last year's Celebrity Apprentice, appearing in a retro 7up commericial for John Rich's (Big & Rich) team.
ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap premieres Tuesday, January 3rd at 9pm. It's the new celeb version of the hit reality series Wife Swap. Dee's wife Suzette Snider will be featured in an episode, trading places with Flavor Flav’s better half, Liz. Here's a photo of Suzette with Flav at his book signing a few months back.
A Twisted Christmas, the annual theatrical holiday extravaganza takes place tonight (Dec. 2) at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, New York, and the Best Buy Theater in New York City on Saturday, December 17th.
Dee Snider, Jay Jay French, Mark Mendoza, Eddie Ojeda and A.J. Pero have crafted this show into a hell-raisin' holiday tradition. In the past, they've had such wildly disparate personalities as Lita Ford, Mick Foley, and MINIKISS join the onstage festivities. You never know who will crash this NYC party.
After the release of 2006's "A Twisted Christmas" album (hailed by the Associated Press as "[one of] the best hard rock Christmas album[s] ever made, and one of the best rock 'n' roll Christmas albums — period — since Elvis made his"), Twisted Sister brought the metal merriment to the stage. They have continued to give these Yuletide anthems a Twisted treatment ever since. White Christmas, Come All Ye Faithful and Deck The Halls have never sounded so electric.
"If you told me 30 years ago that one day I would be playing Christmas songs, with Twisted Sister, for families in concert — and be happy about it — I would have punched you right in the nose," says frontman Dee Snider. "Funny how life changes you. Now I'm actually looking forward to it!" Added guitarist Jay Jay French: "There is no better way to blow your Christmas bonus than by seeing A Twisted Christmas on Broadway. It's so good, even atheists love it!"
The Paramount Theater is located at 370 New York Avenue in Huntington, New York. The show starts as 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $52 to $74. The Best Buy Theater is located at 1515 Broadway at West 44th Street, right in the heart of Times Square. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:00 p.m.) Tickets are $35.
Twisted Sister’s special edition CD/DVD of 1982 debut release “Under The Blade” out May 31 (video clip)
Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the metal debut of 1982, "Under The Blade" by Twisted Sister, on May 31. The CD originally produced by Pete Way of UFO will also contain four tracks from their 1982 "Ruff Cuts" EP (never before available on CD) as well as "Shoot 'Em Down", an '82 live track from England's prestigious Reading Festival. The package features the original "Under The Blade" cover, which has not appeared on any domestic versions of the album until now, and reflects the original Secret Records track list and remastered audio mix.
The DVD contains the entire previously-unreleased Reading concert. Vocalist Dee Snider, guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, bassist Mark Mendoza and drummer A.J. Pero gave the crowd something they had not exactly ever seen before. It was, for all intents and purposes, a coming-out affair for this great band. They play as if their life depends upon it. They play as if they have something to prove. And they did. They're young, hungry, determined and wind up headbanging with a desperate ferocity usually reserved for those kinds of life-altering performances that make a band. This is one of those performances. The set concludes with a show-stopping version of "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll" as the band jams out with Pete Way and Motorhead's Fast Eddie Clarke and Lemmy! The DVD also includes 40 minutes of newly shot interviews with the band about the recording of "Under The Blade" and the Reading Festival.
