Beatles News: ‘Yellow Submarine’ to get theater screenings, Paul McCartney surprises ’30 Rock’, Paul McCartney..Mr. Megarich

With the June 5th release of the digitally restored version of the classic 1968 animated Beatles film 'Yellow Submarine' on the way, its been announced that the movie will be shown in select theaters across the U.S.

The updated version of the film will get its official premiere this on Saturday (May 5) at New York's Ziegfeld Theater, and then will be screened at more than 200 cinemas on various dates over the next few months. Visit www.yellowsubmarinethemovie.com to get all the screening dates and a locations near you.

The updating of 'Yellow Submarine' took more than two years, with some elements of the restoration done frame by frame and by hand.

Last Thursday night (Apr. 26) Paul McCartney stunned the studio audience and possibly even actor Alec Baldwin by making a surprise walk-on appearance during the east coast live episode of NBC's '30 Rock.'

Near the beginning of the episode, Baldwin’s television executive Jack Donaghy is telling Tina Fey’s show producer Liz Lemon that the series' fictional variety show wouldn't be shot live anymore due to budget constraints. That caused Lemon to insist that live television is great because "anything can happen," when who should show up, but McCartney being escorted into Dongahy's posh office by Kenneth the page in order to use the restroom.

The shows are hilarious with guest appearances by Jon Hamm, Jimmy Fallon, Brian Williams (west coast episode), Will Forte, Donald Glover, Fred Armisen, Amy Poehler, Kristen Schall and Chris Parner in a variety of sketch type flashbacks. Donaghy eventually relents and agrees to keep the show live.

Later in the east coast episode, McCartney wanders back onto the set, dazed and confused. Apparently, he hit his head and is suffering from amnesia, a condition Lemon immediately takes advantage of by posing as his girlfriend. In the west coast live episode, Kim Kardashian has a bit role, taking the place of McCartney. Both episodes are hilarious however, with some other subtle differences in dialogue, skits and more.

West coast episode:

The UK's Telegraph has reported that Sir Paul is now the third richest music millionaire in England. Citing the UK's Sunday Times Rich List of Music Millionaires, Paul's wife Nancy Shevell and her $240 million-dollar fortune has increased his wealth by one third to one billion dollars, surpassing producer Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. Now McCartney only trails music executive Clive Calder with $2.2 billlion and producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh who is worth $1.2 billion.

Shevell's wealth is from her share in her family's trucking business, New England Motor Freight, of which Nancy is "vice president for administration, and is responsible for overall office management, including accounts receivable, corporate communications, benefits administration and purchasing," according to the company website. Paul earned $32 million from touring and album sales.

George Harrison's widow Olivia is thirteenth on the list with $290 million dollars, with Ringo Starr coming in eighteen with $257 million. Mick Jagger came in tenth place with $306 million.

Jimmy Fallon to release new album ‘Blow Your Pants Off’ on June 12th

'Blow Your Pants Off,' the second album from late-night talk-show host Jimmy Fallon is slated for release on June 12th. Past musical guests on his show and artists he's done musical impressions of will be featured on the album.

Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder are going to 'Blow Your Pants Off,' as the album is expected to feature new songs and music from some of the sketches and viral videos the funnyman has helped create for 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.' Look for his Neil Young and Doors parodies and the tunes he's sung as the "Tebowie" character, which is a combination of the Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie and football phenomenon Tim Tebow. The record, which is due out on June 12. Fallon just had a 7" vinyl Tebowie single released on Record Store Day 2012, this past Saturday (Apr. 21)

When questioned how the new album got its name Fallon explained, "So far everyone that's heard the album had their pants blown off. There's nothing that we can do about it."

Record Store Day is coming! Check out 2012 releases, Ambassador Iggy Pop shares vinyl memories (video)

Record Store Day is coming! Check out 2012 releases, Ambassador Iggy Pop shares vinyl memories (video)

Record Store Day 2012 is upon us next weekend (April 21) and a more than worthy Iggy Pop is the 2012 Ambassador. Record Store Day started five years ago when 700+ American indie stores came together to celebrate record store culture. It always takes place on the third Saturday in April. The U.K. followed suit, with 2012 marking its fourth celebration as an independent sector. Similar to the U.S., the U.K. indie stores partner with bands to celebrate art of music with special exclusive releases that are desirable to own and fun to collect. Iggy will be making his own Record Day Store stop at Sweat Records for Sweatstock in Miami, Florida. If you're in the area, get over there!

Check out this fantastic video of Ambassador Iggy sharing his vinyl memories. He talks about his first purchase, working in a record store, and so much more: www.recordstoreday.com

There is an abundance of rock being released again this year, with this list of artists worth noting: 311, Amberlin, Arcade Fire, Aretha Franklin/Otis Redding, Brad, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Disturbed, Eddie Vedder, Flogging Molly, Garbage, Genesis, Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Eve 6, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Fallon (Tebowie), Joey Ramone, Little Richard, Mastodon/Feist, Metallica, Misfits, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, Phish, Rainbow, Rival Sons, Small Faces, Switchfoot, T. Rex, The Black Keys, The Byrds, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, The Clash, The Cult, The Grateful Dead, The Knack, The White Stripes, Social Distortion, Lou Reed, Paul Simon, and many more.

Please support your local Record Store! It is more important than you know. With the talk of Best Buy closing stores, and the past bankruptsy of Circuit City, our local Record Stores are one of the last places to be exposed to and buy new music in that type of enviroment. Fuck Wal-Mart (and Best Buy and Circuit City for that matter), we need to keep the experience alive of going to a business where they care about all music and care about exposing new artists of merit. The shared experience and coolness of a howntown record store CANNOT go away!!  Get all the info and the stores near you here: www.recordstoreday.com

Let's highlight a few of the releases. Metallica's four-song EP called "Beyond Magnetic", which was made available digitally in December, and as a physical CD in January, will be released on silver vinyl to celebrate Record Store Day on April 21. The effort consists of the quartet of previously unheard tracks that the band unveiled in concert in December during its 30th-anniversary celebration. All four tunes, 'Hate Train', 'Just A Bullet Away', 'Hell And Back' and 'Rebel Of Babylon' were recorded during the sessions for the band's 2008 'Death Magnetic' album but left off the final track list. The studio versions of all four songs- all rough mixes were sent to Metalica fan club members one at a time, after each song was performed live during each of the band's four shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco.

Metallica talks Record Store Day: "We've always been big supporters of our friends at independent retail and the annual event the third Saturday of each April... we even helped kick off the first year in 2008 with an in-store appearance at one of our hometown stores! To add to the fun, this is no ordinary black vinyl release, but instead will be on silver vinyl with an exclusive Metallica sticker included in the package. Look for the EP on the special Saturday release date at your favorite local record store and on Metallica.com."

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release an Ozzy Osbourne seven-inch and 12-inch vinyl release. The Ozzy releases for Record Store Day 2012 are:

The Cult are releasing a picture disc with tracks from the phenomenal forthcoming 'For The Animals' album.

A vinyl re-issue of David Bowie’s 1972 single 'Starman' will get the special treatment on Record Store Day when it’s re-released as a limited-edition picture disc. The A-side will be the original single version, whereas the B-side will be the version of 'Starman' from the legendary (mono) 'Top Of The Pops' TV performance.

Continuing in the mission of reissuing the nuggets of the White Stripes’ back catalog, Third Man plays Dr. Frankenstein/matchmaker to two stand-alone songs from the high time of the year 2000. “Hand Springs” was originally released as a split-single with the Dirtbombs and included free in issue #19 of Multiball magazine. “Red Death at 6:14” was initially released on the Jack White-produced compilation “Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit” and was later made available as a one-sided single from the folks at MOJO magazine.
