Ace Frehley has announced 'Origins Vol. 1,' a collection of 12 newly recorded classics from Ace’s formative years featuring some of the biggest names in rock and roll, will be released on April 15. Most notably, KISS frontman Paul Stanley joins Ace on Free's hit "Fire and Water." This collaboration marks the first time that Ace and Paul appear on the same studio recording since KISS' 1998 reunion album 'Psycho Circus.'
Ace has already debuted "White Room," the classic hit originally performed by Cream. Other guests on the album are none other than Slash trading leads on Thin Lizzy's classic "Emerald," Lita Ford singing and playing lead on The Troggs staple "Wild Thing," Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 playing guitar alongside Ace as he sings his classic KISS composition "Parasite" for the very first time, as well as Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic," and Pearl Jam's Mike McCready also plays guitar with Ace as he finally sings his KISS “Alive!” mainstay "Cold Gin." "White Room" is also an iTunes instant gratification track, meaning fans who pre order the LP on iTunes will receive the Cream cover song instantly. Ace will be touring extensively in 2016, including a date at The Ranch in San Miguel, CA. on March 4 with openers Soundhouse. Get tickets here

On my way to the venue for the Rob Zombie show on Wednesday night (September 17), I wondered how the vibe would be in this beautiful venue nestled in Central California Wine Country. In only its second season of shows, the Vina Robles Amphitheatre had never played host to a show this rocking before, with the closest being the Sammy Hagar/Rival Sons show last year. So not only was I looking forward to rocking hard with Rob and the band, I wanted to see how the mosh pits were going to go over with a definitive beer drinking crowd (I assume some wine was consumed -lol).
The open pit in front of the stage was going to provide for ample moshing and the crowd was definitely ready after a opening set by DJ Ginger Fish, who also doubles as Mr. Zombie's drummer. He mashed up familiar and hard rocking tracks designed to get the party vibe kicking in. When the lights went down and Rob announced we were having an early Halloween party, I knew that would be factual! The backdrop of classic photos of Frankenstien, the Wolfman, Phantom of the Opera and a huge backdrop picture of King Kong terrorizing New York City added to the vibe as Zombie jumped from small platform to small platform singing into a microphone stand modeled after “Nosferatu,” the original film vampire.
The energy was electric from the beginning to end with the set kicking off with 'Teenage Nosferatu' and 'Superbeast' and continuing into 'Living Dead Girl.' That was followed by 'Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown' from last years album release 'Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor.'
Drummer Piggy D's kick ass solo flowed into 'More Human Than Human,' with Rob really jacking the crowd up a few notches and imploring them with his words: "Are You Ready!...Security, chill the fuck out. If you want to get up, GET UP..Fuck that shit! We're here to party..fuck it. Get up motherfuckers!' And get up they did. The energy level in the venue was off the hook at this point.
'Sick Bubble-Gum' was up next with Rob getting a couple of Rock cheerleaders onstage from the audience. One was a guy with a Captain Misfit mask near Guitarist John 5 on the right of the stage and a Bettie Page look-alike with bassist Piggy D on the left. The chats of "Rock" and "Motherfucker" kicked in, and then did the track, which prominently features both words. 'House of 1,000 Corpses' and "Meet The Creeper' continued the ass kicking, followed by a cover of 'Beat The Brat,' paying tribute to the Ramones.
The build up into track that starting the Zombie phenomenon 'Thunder Kiss 65' kicked in with Rob imploring to the crowd in the pit, "Hold onto your beer, hold into your nachos, hold on to your popcorn...things might get a little weird. I see that guy coming in with his refreshments, he may just want to back on out." Hopefully he did, as the crowd at this point went ballistic. The amazing John 5 channeled his inner Eddie Van Halen during the guitar solo, showing off his amazing musical skills. John 5 is truly one of the guitar greats in Rock today. During the solo, Rob grabbed a spotlight and went out into the audience, slapping fives and bonding even up on the lawn area. Rob Zombie took the bond between the band and his audience to the next level at this point.
John 5 then proceeded to launch into a solo of 'Star Spangled Banner' with his teeth and Rob donned an American flag cape as the band launched into Grand Funk Railroad's 'We're An American Band.' The set was originally to close with 'Dragula,' but after a couple of minutes Rob brought the band back to kick everyone's ass one last time with 'Scum Of The Earth.'
There was some serious moshing going on, and even a fight or two with some blows thrown during the show. I will say this...the Vina Robles Security staff did a fantastic job squashing anything before it got really out of control and didn't single anyone out or make big issue of it. They just got it separated and squashed. I am looking forward to more Hard Rock shows at the venue next season.
Rob Zombie and the band truly make a unique and intense connection with their fans and they deliver! Even on the way out of Vina Robles, the band was connecting as each and every person received an awesome comic caricature poster of the band complete with date and venue location on it. A memorable show to say the least, and looking forward to a return visit the California Central Coast soon. For more Zombie photos check out the Marshall of Rock Facebook page.

‘The Life, Blood And Rhythm Of Randy Castillo’ documentary to premiere this November (video preview)
'The Life, Blood And Rhythm Of Randy Castillo,' a rock documentary produced by Cinema 1 Film & FX and 18 Lights Pictures has been selected to open the Red Nation Film Festival in Beverly Hills, CA. on November 4th.
'The Life, Blood And Rhythm Of Randy Castillo' is the story of the late, legendary drummer who played with Ozzy Osborne, Motley Crue, Lita Ford, and other rock and roll icons of the 1980s and 1990s. The film features superstar interviews, concert footage, home movies and behind-the-scenes video of this bigger-than-life Apache musician whose unshakable passion carried him from the wrong side of the tracks to the top of the charts—only to be taken by cancer at the height of his career. The film is narrated by Queen of Metal, Lita Ford.
“It’s been a magical journey,” said Director Wynn Ponder, “working with Lita and interviewing Randy’s band mates, family and friends, but the real story is about how Randy’s generous spirit never changed, even when his formidable musical talent made him the first internationally famous Apache rock and roll drummer.”
Ponder said, “Randy Castillo was that rare creature known as a ‘good man,’ a confidante and close friend to many ... compassionate and caring with everyone he met. Some interviewees tell stories of Randy’s supernatural powers, which they attribute to his Native American spirituality.”
Part musical legend, part personal journey and part shamanic mythos, The Life, Blood And Rhythm Of Randy Castillo ultimately reveals a seldom-seen layer of humanity behind the glittered walls of the rock industry. For more go to: www.randycastillomovie.com

Rock Picks of the Week: Alice In Chains, Jared James Nichols, Megadeth, Queensryche, Rob Zombie, Eve To Adam
Alice In Chains have released the third track from the band's fifth studio album, 'The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.' 'Voices' is on the mellow side of the first two singles from the album, 'Hollow' and 'Stone,' but it sounds like it is going to join those tracks as going to the top of the active rock charts.
Alice In Chains just kicked off the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival Tour 2013 along with Jane's Addiction, Danko Jones, Coheed and Cambria, Walking Papers, Circa Survive, Middle Class Rut and more. Get all the tour dates here
Meet the next great blues guitarist, Jared James Nichols! The 22-year-old East Troy, Wisconsin native raised near Waukesha (the hometown of Les Paul) has released his first studio effort, an epic EP called 'Old Glory & The Wild Revival.' It is the follow up to his 2012 EP 'Live At The Viper Room.'
Jared was influenced by the classic playing of Son House, Freddy King & Stevie Ray Vaughn. His new EP was produced and engineered by Warren Huart (Aerosmith, The Fray) and recorded at Swing House Studios in Los Angeles.
When Jared was 20, he moved to Hollywood and while attending Musicians Institiute he met Swedish musicians Dennis Holm (drums) & Eric Sandin (bass) and formed a fantastic power trio. All five tracks: Blackfoot, Let You Go, Can You Feel It?, Sometimes and Take My Hand, display Nichols' amazing talents, which will continue to grow and be recognized as time goes along. Megadeth have released a video for their title track from their latest album 'Super Collider.' Looks like Dave has gotten in touch with his sensitive side, with the video also having a story line of a girl and a boy who are torn apart by her father (played by Dave) , only to reunite at their 10 year class reunion to rocket fireworks and a happy ending.
Dave Mustaine recently said about the track: “The song kind of came from that Symphony Of Destruction corner of my mind. You can’t always play aggressive, thrashy stuff. Sometimes those aren’t even songs; they’re like musical rams. But because I’m not a pop guy, I’m also not really comfortable playing sing-along songs.
“To me, Super Collider made sense like a normal song — a verse-chorus-verse-chorus kind of thing. It’s written the way a real songwriter would write the song, instead of just taking all these musical twists and turns.”
Megadeth are wrapping up their Gigantour tomorrow night in Toronto, and will follow that up with some dates opening for Iron Maiden, and slots on the 'Battle of San Bernadino' (CA) bill with Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Testament, Overkill and Sabaton on September 13, and the Monster Energy Aftershock 2013 Festival on September 14 in Sacramento, CA. That bill features Korn, Shinedown, Papa Roach, Skillet, Buckcherry, In This Moment, Steel Panther, Device, P.O.D., Pop Evil, Otherwise, Soil and Heaven's Basement. The band will then continue the tour during October in South America, before returning for a one-off gig in Phoenix, AZ. on October 30 at the Arizona State Fair.
The Todd La Torre fronted Queensryche is up next with their track 'Fallout,' from the group's self-titled new album, which sold around 13,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to landing at No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record came out on June 25 via Century Media Records. The new video was filmed in Gelsenkirchen, Germany this past May during the annual Rock Hard Festival and features concert and behind-the-scenes footage.
Queensryche have a couple of U.S. tour dates left in August before heading to Europe for a tour during October. Get all the info on the band's official Facebook page.
Rob Zombie's second single from his latest album 'Venomous Rat Generation Vendor,' features one of his first forays into cover tune territory, his version of 'We're An American Band' also includes a tip of the hat to Slayer in the lines "Up all night with Kerry King/I got to tell ya poker’s his thing."
Guitarist John 5 added: “In the original there’s a lyric that goes, ‘Up all night with Freddie King.’ In the Rob Zombie version it says ‘Kerry King.’ We kind of snuck that in.”
It's a rocking version that is played well on the latest Zombie tour, and has becaome a staple in their live set. Rob and the band will be playing the Heavy MTL 2013 Festival in Montreal this weekend, followed by Rock In Rio on September 19, and Buenes Aires on September 22. Then look for Rob Zombie’s 'Great American Nightmare.' This bone-chilling experience will combine the most advanced haunted house attractions with a not-to-be-missed music festival from top artists in hard rock, alternative, EDM, and more, every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from October 10 through November 2, 2013 at the Fairplex FEARplex in Pomona, CA, just outside Los Angeles. A DVD filmed this past August 3 & 4 in Texas is in the works as well.
New York City's Eve to Adam are back and will release their new album ‘Locked & Loaded’ on Sept. 17. The album's lead single 'Straitjacket Supermodel,' features some "mature themes," with a super sick in the head supermodel doing her best to decimate and eliminate everybody she comes in explicit contact with.
Eve to Adam singer Taki Sassaris has described ‘Straightjacket Supermodel’ this way: ”You can go from zero to villain in three seconds, and it seems like everybody has their own little chaotic psychotic world going on with their Twitter and Facebook and everybody is pretty much the center of their own universe now, so it’s getting a little crazy, so that’s the ‘Straitjacket’ part, and ‘Supermodel’ is just being looked upon as being beautiful and perfect and that quest for an obsession for physical perfection and to be looked upon in that limelight as the ultimate badass.”
Eve To Adam continue to built a base with each subsequent album, and 'Locked & Loaded' will be no exception to that. The band just finished a tour with Texas Hippie Coalition, but has a few more upcoming dates coming up:
Aug. 11 - Los Angeles, CA - The Roxy

Soundgarden starts off rock picks with their Dave Grohl directed video for 'By Crooked Steps.' It's the second single from the new album 'King Animal', and a comedic look at the band as segway gang. The band strap on the helmets and make their way through town, sporting the attitude to go along with the segway domination.
Soundgarden are near wrapping up their U.S. tour, with multiple gig in Oakland and Los Angeles, CA. The band will be filming the last show of the U.S. tour at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles for "Live from the Artists Den," and will also be giving away round-trip airfare & tickets for one fan & a guest to attend the Feb 17th show. To Enter the contest just go to: http://bitly.com/SGArtistsDen.
The band will also be playing some festivals, including Carolina Rebellion and Rock On The Range during May. Soundgarden will likely be taking a break when the tour wraps up, with drummer Matt Cameron on to finish and album with Pearl Jam follow with a tour.
Another great track from Corey Taylor and Stone Sour is next, as 'Do Me A Favor', from 'House of Gold & Bones Part 2", is kicking ass in rock picks this week. It's an epic track with everything you would want: adrenaline, melody, meaningful lyrics and an epic vibe. Stone Sour are at the top of the list for great current rock and both albums, videos, an online presence, album packaging, the live show and a graphic novel all contribute to one amazing project!
Stone Sour are currently on tour with Papa Roach in the U.S., and will be playing multiple festivals this Spring and Summer. Check out everything Stone Sour at their official website here.

Recent Grammy winners Halestorm are back in rock picks with their top 5 track for 'Freak Like Me', from their album 'The Strange Case Of...'. Lzzy Hale and the guys have had one hell of a 2012, carrying in 2013 and capping off with a Grammy win for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance for 'Love Bites (So Do I)'. The band have have released a new "thank you" video version of the song for fans that documents their past year. Watch that at Rollingstone.com

Tom Keifer of multi-platinum band Cinderella has released the first single from his upcoming solo album 'The Way Life Goes'. 'The Flower Song' has been described as having the feel of a vintage Faces cut, with a 'Maggie May' feel. I can hear it and I like it.
'The Way Life Goes' is set for release on April 30th. To says about the track: "To me, that song is about how unbelievable it is that you're able to find that one person that's perfect for you. Obviously, it's told from the perspective of a guy, but I think it's true for both men and women: When you find that one person, it's a miracle."
Keifer wrote the song with Jim Peterik, formerly of the bands Survivor and the Ides of March. Another track, 'Solid Ground', is set to be released on March 11th.
"The Flower Song is one aspect of the record," Keifer says. "The record ranges from that more acoustic side to hard-driving, high-energy rock songs, and everything in between. It's a pretty diverse album."
Keifer began writing for what would become 'The Way Life Goes' during the mid-'90s. Shortly after he began cutting tracks, his wife, Savannah, gave birth to their first child. "We took a little break right there to be parents for a while," he says. Tours with Cinderella and Keifer's ongoing vocal troubles also delayed the album's completion.
Keifer plans to launch a solo tour in February to give fans a taste of 'The Way Life Goes'. "I'm going to try to strike a balance" of new material and old favorites, he says. "I'd say it's going to be 50-50, like a preview of new songs off the record, then some Cinderella favorites, some of them done just like the record and a couple of them reinvented a little."
Keifer says his voice is doing well now, but "that's a daily battle for me. I didn't have nodes, or something that could be lasered off. The condition I have is neurological. It's something I have to deal with every day, because one of my cords just doesn't respond the way it should.
"I stick to my routine and regimen every day and try to keep them doing what they're supposed to do. I'm not going to lie to you: It's not fun, and I have my ups and downs with it."
Keifer just kicked off a solo tour in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Feb. 9, with additional shows scheduled for New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville and more.
"The Way Life Goes" track listing:
1. Solid Ground

7. Fools Paradise

The new track from ADLER 'Good To Be Bad', featuring a guest appearance by Rob Zombie/ex-Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5, from ADLER's debut album, 'Back From The Dead', marks a return visit to the rock picks from what in my opinion is the best music Steven Adler has released since being in Guns N' Roses. With production by Jeff Pilson (Dokken/Foreigne/War & Peace/T&N) and was mixing by Jay Ruston (Anthrax/Stone Sour/Steel Panther), and the musicianship of frontman Jacob Bunton, guitarist Lonny Paul, and bassist Johnny Martin, the album is an 11-track collection of great rock from top to bottom.
Adler will be rocking The Whisky A Go-Go on Feb. 15th in West Hollywood, CA., with more dates soon to be announced.
Look for Steven as a guest on the new 'The Ben Show' that will debut on Comedy Central on February 28th. He will appear on the debut episode that airs 10pm EST/9pm CST.
Love & Death, the new band from former KORN guitarist Brian "Head" Welch has released a new clip for the first single from their new album 'Between Here & Lost'. 'The Abandoning", is a blistering, bombastic knock to the senses.
The single and album are a fantastic return to the metal scene for Welch, with the CD consisting of 11 tracks, ranging from songs about personal struggle and triumph ('Chemicals', 'My Disaster', 'Paralyzed') to emotionally charged anthems ('Fading Away', 'Watching The Bottom Fall') and even a heavy version of Devo's 1980 hit 'Whip It'. Welch put the band together in 2009, eventually putting together the lineup that is the band today.
"This record was birthed from trials, tribulations, pain, suffering, anxiety, depression, and drama," stated Welch. "However, we came out on top and the end result is a very real, raw and honest record. We are so stoked for people to hear it! From our opening song, 'The Abandoning', to our cover of DEVO's 'Whip it', to our collaboration with Mattie Montgomery from FOR TODAY on 'I W8 4 U', It's an exciting piece of art and the listener will feel the different range of emotions with the lyrics and melodies of each song."
Look for Love & Death on tour soon.
Love & Death are:
Brian "Head" Welch
lead guitarist: JR Bareis
bassist: Michael Valentine
drummer: Dan Johnson.
'Between Here & Lost' track listing:
1. The Abandoning
2. Whip It
3. Watching The Bottom Fall
4. By The Way...
6. My Disaster
7. I W8 4 U (featuring Mattie Montgomery)
8. Fading Away
Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators have released another video from one of the rock albums of the year in 2012 with 'Anastasia'. The former Guns N' Roses guitarist is now releasing his music through his own label, Dik Hayd Records,
and the band will be releasing another yet to be recorded album together at some point, probably in late 2014 or early 2015. The band is currently on a European tour, with upcoming date in Slovenia, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Russia and more in the month of February. In March the band will hit the UK and Ireland followed in May with what looks like the last tour date of the year May 11 in Toyko for Ozzfest with Black Sabbath. Vocalist Myles Kennedy will then get back to work with Alter Bridge, but should record another album with Slash and the band in early 2014.
