Last month's 2012 Hard Rock Calling Festival featuring the Bruce Springsteen performance that was cut short when organizers pulled the plug on the power during the encore with surprise special guest Paul McCartney is slated to air on the Palladia cable network will air on August 25th at 9 p.m. ET.
Hard Rock Calling 2012 took place at London's Hyde Park on July 13, 14 and 15 and featured sets by Paul Simon, John Fogerty, Iggy & the Stooges, Tom Morello, Soundgarden and more.
Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band closed out the second day of the festival. At the tail end of McCartney's surprise appearance during the show's finale, organizers pulled the power because The Boss had gone well over curfew. Bruce and the band were also joined at that epic show by Fogerty and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.
A new trailer of 'Sound City,' the feature-length documentary directed and produced by Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, about Los Angeles' legendary and now defunct Sound City recording studio in Van Nuys, California has been posted. The concept for the movie was conceived by Grohl after he bought an equally famous Neve 8028 recording console from the studio. The console, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the crown jewel of analog recording equipment.
The Neve 8028 was used to record an amazing list of classic albums by the likes of Nirvana, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns N' Roses, Rage Against The Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and countless others over the past 40 years. The clip features John Fogerty, Tom Petty, Mick Fleetwood and others discussing their experiences recording at the legendary Los Angeles studio and working with the Neve 8028.
"It's tube-driven, it's analog," comments Fogerty. "The bass sounds better, the human voice sounds better." Sound City will reportedly include new music and interviews with a wide variety of other artists, including Rick Springfield collaborating with Corey Taylor, members of Cheap Trick, Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon and Stephen Pearcy and Warren DeMartini of Ratt. No release date for the film has yet been announced, but Grohl hopes to have it out by early 2013.
Bruce Springsteen News: The Boss & McCartney have plugged pulled at Hard Rock Calling, Jam with The Roots, Dancing In the Dark with daughter Jessica (video)
Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney had the plug pulled on them after running long at the Hard Rock Calling concert in London's Hyde Park. Springsteen and The E Street Band welcomed Sir Paul on stage for renditions of the Beatles' 'I Saw Her Standing There' and 'Twist and Shout,' but their microphones were turned off before they could thank the crowds.
Springsteen had already played over three hours at the point when McCartney joined him for the encore, but toward the end of the second song, the microphones faded and comments by Springsteen to the crowd went unheard.
"It made for a slightly bizarre, anti-climactic end to what had been a fantastic show," said Stephen Robb, a BBC reporter who was at the event. "The band obviously couldn't tell from on stage that the sound had been shut off. It just looked a bit like everyone was milling about on stage having forgotten how the show should end."
E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, was angered at first by being cut off, saying on Twitter: "English cops may be the only individuals left on earth that wouldn't want to hear one more from Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney! The cops got nothing better to do? How about they go catch some criminals instead of f—ing with 80,000 people having a good time. English cops are the only individuals left on earth that wouldn’t want to hear one more from Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney. I’m sorry, but I have to be honest, I’m pissed! Like I said, it didn’t ruin the great night, but when I’m jamming with Paul McCartney, don’t bug me."
Hours later, after settling down a bit, Van Zandt returned to Twitter explaining, “Very proud of our association with Hard Rock Calling and Hard Rock in general and what they’re doing for rock music. Hard Rock would have let us play all night. There’s no grudges to be held. Just feel bad for our great fans. Hard Rock is cool. Live Nation is cool. It’s some City Council stupid rule.”
According to Westminster Council, the decision to end the concert was made by its organisers and not local authorities.
"Concert organisers, not the council, ended last night's concert in Hyde Park to comply with their licence," said Leith Penny, Westminster Council's strategic director for city management. "Licences are granted until certain times" - in this case 22:30 BST - "to protect residents in the area from noise late at night."
Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello and John Fogerty also joined the band during the 29-song set, with Morello on ‘Death to My Hometown,’ ‘Jack of All Trades,’ and ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad,’ while John Fogerty joined in for ‘The Promised Land.’
Reports that Springsteen also bowed to the wishes of one lucky fan in the in audience, who had been holding up a banner asking for ‘Take ‘Em As They Come’ and listing the concerts around the world where he had requested it.
After noticing the banner, Springsteen grabbed it and told the audience member, “Tonight, my friend, this is your lucky night. You’re going to hear this damn thing. It’s a completely obscure track I wrote for ‘The River’ when I needed some rock songs.” Springsteen has reportedly only played the song nine times prior with the last performance coming in Copenhagen in 2003.
Soundgarden were the headliner on Friday's Hard Rock Calling concerts, while Paul Simon will take to the stage today.

On July 7th, after opening the show for him, the Roots joined Bruce and The E Street Band at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark for 'The E Street Shuffle.' Nearly 100,000 people witnessed the performance. Bruce has a past with the Roots, due to his awesome guest spots on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,' where the Roots are the house band. This is awesome!
Bruce brought his daughter 20 year old daughter Jessica to the stage last Thursday in Paris during 'Dancing In the Dark,' seemingly filling the role that Courtney Cox had in the video of the song almost 30 years ago. The dance that ended with him lifting her off the ground and showing his pride and joy to the audience.
Aerosmith performed their new single 'Legendary Child' Wednesday night (May 23) on the season finale of 'American Idol,' as well as one of their classics 'Walk this Way.' 'Legendary Child' will be featured on the new album 'Music From Another Dimension,' due out on August 28th.
'Legendary Child' was to be on the soundtrack for the movie 'G.I. Joe: Redemption,' but the release date on the movie has been delayed until a March 29, 2013 release due to an upgrade needed on 3D. It was slated to be in theaters on June 29th. Didn't a commercial for the movie air during the Super Bowl? Very poor planning on that one Paramount. Regardless, the track kicks ass and we can't wait to hear more of the album.
Here's an update on the album from bassist Tom Hamilton

Aerosmith News: Steven Tyler of Aerosmith getting musical advice from Johnny Depp?, “Dream On’ cover part of ’100 Years of Fenway Park’ album
Johnny Depp recently jammed with Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Alice Cooper at the after party celebrating Depp's latest movie 'Dark Shadows,' but Depp has a history with Aerosmith as does 'Dark Shadows' director Tim Burton. Aerosmith have been holed up in Burton's old Swinghouse recording studio working on the new album and Depp has been dropping by occasionally to check in on the band’s progress.
Tyler explained, "When we are done recording, I go up to Johnny’s house and I play him stuff and I ask if it is any good. He gives me [honest feedback]." Tyler says Depp is qualified to weigh in on the subject. "Johnny is a great musician and many people don’t know that, he plays piano, guitar, he knows his music."
Tyler saiys that ‘Legendary Child,’ Aerosmith’s contribution to the upcoming ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ movie is awesome and the spirit of the film lines up quite well with the band’s own experiences. "'G.I. Joe' [is] about deep space and 'let’s go fight the foe.' And then I thought about where the band came from, and going [into] the music business. If there ever...was a foe, the music business was. So to be successful you had to learn how to climb ladders, jump through hoops and live through burning houses."
Tyler also says the band recently spent 12 hours filming a video for the song and he gives high praise to his longtime mate Perry, who he says was “on fire” when the band was recording the song.
Aerosmith will premiere a new song on the season finale of 'American Idol' on May 23rd. It is not confirmed, but it most likely will be 'Legendary Child', which was an outake from the 'Get A Grip' sessions.
In celebration of the 100th birthday of Fenway Park, members of the Boston Red Sox are featured with Boston area musicians on the commemorative album, ’100 Year Anniversary of Fenway Park.' The album features contemporary recordings of fan favorites that are often heard bellowing at Fenway during games and that are associated with the area’s bands. Current and former Sox players contribute along with special guests and children from the team’s charitable Red Sox Scholars program.
'Sweet Caroline' features home run machine David “Big Papi’ Ortiz providing background vocals and improv while Clay Buchholz plays acoustic guitar. Jon Butcher is joined by Jarrod Saltalamacchia churns out additional guitar licks on a cover of Aerosmith's 'Dream On.' Daniel Bard plays acoustic guitar on album’s debut single, 'Let the Good Times Roll.' He is joined by Extreme lead singer Gary Cherone and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.
Kenny Aronoff, who's currently drumming for Chickenfoot and has worked with John Mellencamp and John Fogerty besides having done session work for a never ending list of musicians, contributed drums.
A portion of the proceeds benefit the Red Sox Foundation, the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox, and its Red Sox Scholars and inner city youth baseball programs. The album will be available exclusively for purchase at the Yawkey Way Store/The Official Red Sox Team Store, as well as at all traditional and digital retailers on May 22nd.
