Glenn Hughes gets ready for new Black Country Communion release, talks Deep Purple Mark II and Orange Amplification (video)

Glenn Hughes and Black Country Communion are readying the release of their third studio album 'Afterglow' on October 30th and have released the first webisode of the making of the album which you can watch below. But, Glenn Hughes has already said it could be the BCC's last because he wants to be in a band that can take on a long term touring commitment, and because of guitarist Joe Bonamassa's solo career, that is just not going to happen. He has mentioned that he has formed a band called Kings Of Chaos with Joe Elliott (Def Leppard), Duff McKagan (ex-Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver/Loaded), Matt Sorum (ex-Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver) and Steve Stevens (ex-Billy Idol), but he has also talked with David Coverdale about some kind of possible resurrection/tribute of the Deep Purple Mark III lineup.

The "Mark III" version of Deep Purple featured guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, the late Jon Lord on keyboards and organ, drummer Ian Paice, as well as singer David Coverdale and bassist/singer Glenn Hughes. Hughes recently told CBS Local that "Jon, David and I were trying to get it together," but the holdup has been Blackmore: “We couldn’t get ahold of him. We sent carrier pigeons, and the Pony Express. But nobody at 'Castle Blackmore' answered the door. It wasn’t meant to be."

A full reunion will never happen now because of Jon Lords unfortunate passing, but Hughes says, "I wouldn’t be surprised if we did something, David and I. Something might pop its head in the next two years."

When asked if there was a specific project in mind, Hughes said, "No! (But) David and I have talked about this weekly since Jon died. How we can do something to keep the flame burning. But we don’t want to hinder the heritage of the band, some bands get back together and sound bloody awful. It’s the 40th anniversary of 'Burn' next year. I’m not giving you a hint to something that’s gonna happen, but you just never know."

The closest thing to that reunion is the two tracks Hughes is a part of on 'Re-Machined: A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head' (out Sept. 25) Hughes plays bass and sings on new versions of 'Maybe I’m A Leo" and "Highway Star."

Orange Amplification has announced that Glenn Hughes is now endorsing their amps. His move to Orange Amplification sees him returning back to his roots of using a British-made vintage inspired amp with full modern tones.

"I plugged into to that Orange amp and it was as though it had been designed for me!" Glenn said. "It was the Glenn Hughes sound... It was the sound I had with TRAPEZE in '69 and the sound I had with DEEP PURPLE!"

Glenn will be using the AD200B MK3 head with an OBC810 8 x 10" bass speaker cabinet on his latest tour. The AD200B MK3 is quite simply one of the purest bass amps ever produced with a creamy dynamic low end and a focused midrange crunch. The OBC810 is a revered bass cabinet first made in small numbers back in the 1970s, and recently relaunched, it has to be heard to be believed.

Glenn Hughes says upcoming Black Country Communion album may be their last, forms another supergroup called Kings of Chaos

Glenn Hughes says upcoming Black Country Communion album may be their last, forms another supergroup called Kings of Chaos

Vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes of Black Country Communion recently told ABC News Radio that the band's third studio album, 'Afterglow' (out Oct. 30) quite possibly may be their last, but not because he doesn't want the band to continue. BCC features drummer Jason Bonham, keyboardist Derek Sherinian and guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa. Glenn said, "This may be the [band's] last album," he declared. "I hate to break it to you, but it just may be, because I need to be in a band that tours on a regular basis."

Hughes also said that due to guitarist Joe Bonamassa's own solo recording and touring commitments, Black Country Communion has no solid plans to tour in support of Afterglow. "If I had a magic wand," he added, "I would wave it over everybody's head and go, 'Hey, you guys, we're gonna go and do 200 shows [in 2013] and we're gonna be a huge rock 'n' roll band globally. It's not gonna happen. I figured that if this was to be the last album…then I need to come in with some pretty wild and epic tracks," he noted. "So, I'm really proud of this album."

It looks as though Hughes has already formed another supergroup of sorts called Kings of Chaos with several of the other famous musicians who took part in a recent Rock N Roll All Stars tour of South America. The band's lineup includes Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, bassist Duff McKagan (ex-Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver/Loaded), drummer Matt Sorum (ex- Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver) and guitarist Steve Stevens (ex-Billy Idol).

Hughes said that Kings of Chaos will "tour pockets of the world -- the exotics, if you will, and the tropics and even America." He said things a tour will launch this April in South America, where the group plans to hit cities that the Rock N Roll AllStars had intended to play before the gigs were canceled.

Hughes also said the new group will record new music: "We're gonna do a series of EPs. On those EPs there will be three covers and one original song. And…the lineups with the Kings of Chaos, vocally, will change. The core band will be the same. So, it's gonna be always moving and changing." Kings of Chaos actually make their recorded debut on the forthcoming Deep Purple tribute album 'Re-Machined: A Tribute to Deep Purple's Machine Head', which will be released on September 25th. The track "Never Before" is their contribution to the project, minus Hughes on vocals. Hughes does play on two tracks on 'Re-Machined,' 'Maybe I'm a Leo' and 'Highway Star.'

Noisecreep recently caught up with former Deep Purple bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes to chat about the new Deep Purple tribute album 'Re-Machined: A Tribute to Deep Purple's Machine Head', the recent passing of Purple keysman Jon Lord and how the band isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet: www.noisecreep.com

WhoCares featuring Ian Gillan, Tony Iommi & Friends to release 2CD set

WhoCares featuring Ian Gillan, Tony Iommi & Friends to release 2CD set

Reuniting for the first time since their collaboration on Black Sabbath’s 1983 Born Again album, Deep Purple´s Ian Gillan and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi took everybody by surprise in 2011 when they released the charity singles,'Out Of My Mind' and 'Holy Water.'

For the recording of these songs, the two rock legends called a few friends, asking for some “help.” Jason Newsted (Metallica), the late Jon Lord (Deep Purple, 1941-2012), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), and Linde Lindström (HIM) completed the supergroup WhoCares.

Now, 'Out Of My Mind' and 'Holy Water' will be featured in a special 2 disc set of rarities and recordings culled from the careers of Iommi and Gillan. The WhoCares double CD will be released in North American on August 28th through Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Amongst the tracks are the two original WhoCares songs, Deep Purple’s unreleased studio jam Dick Pimple, a song from Repo Depo (a band Ian Gillan formed before the Deep Purple reunion) which never released an official song before this CD. Also included is 'Zero The Hero,' from the aforementioned Black Sabbath Born Again release (which is the only album to feature Gillan on lead vocals), as well as two unreleased songs from Tony Iommi featuring Glenn Hughes.

The Out Of My Mind and Holy Water singles were a joyful and inspired moment from two musicians with nothing to prove, willing to support music where music is considered a luxury. The spark to bring Iommi and Gillan in a studio together again was to finance the rebuilding of a music school in Armenia they had visited together on various occasions in past years.

“As I said once in the song Razzle Dazzle, it’s a real fine line between an orgy of destruction and a wonderful time,’” states Gillan. “The destruction of conformity in this case: some of these pieces never really fitted into their contemporary program and got sidelined or forgotten, and some of the album tracks never had much exposure. As the track listing for this album came together, I noticed many of the titles had character similarities: a combination of freshness as they finally felt the sun on their backs and rebellion in a ‘yeah told you so’ kind of way. And that adds up to a wonderful time and more money for the music school we are building in Armenia."

“The ad-hoc benefit WhoCares band,” continues Gillan, “was a band put together by Tony Iommi and myself on a flight home from Yerevan, where we’d been deeply humbled by the honor and expectation bestowed upon us. Well that’s it really, in a nutshell, so to speak, what more can I say? It’s all there in the music.”

The release of this very special 2 CD set is a must for all Deep Purple fans and fans of hard rock.
