Metallica’s James Hetfield cuts PSA to help in find killer of fan who attended 2009 concert, Orion Music + More (Film) Festival
Back in October of 2009 Metallica fan Morgan Harrington went missing after attending a Metallica show. Her killer has never been found, and the group still doing their part to find the culprit.
When the band originally heard about the case, they used their public platform to aid in search for the missing college student. A little while later, Harrington’s remains were discovered.
Singer James Hetfield recently filmed a video plea seeking further information as the killer is still at large. In his clip, Hetfield states, “Back in 2010, our band offered $50,000 to help catch the person who was responsible for murdering Morgan Harrington. Since that time, authorities uncovered new evidence linking her killer to a similar assault to a woman in Virginia.”
The video shows a police sketch of the suspect, as Hetfield asks that anyone who recognizes the person or has information regarding the case to call the local police or submit their information online.
He adds, “Remember, any information, no matter how small you might think it is, could be that crucial piece that investigators need to help solve the case.”
At present, there’s up $150,000 reward for the capture of the killer. Hetfield urges anyone with information to contact the Virginia State Police tip line listed in the video.
Metallica’s new annual music, arts and lifestyle festival, Orion Music + More is going on this weekend, and in a recent online video interview, drummer Lars Ulrich revealed that there is also a film festival taking place in a tent during the event.
The film tent, titled Hit the Lights, will showcase some of Ulrich’s favorite movies including 2010’s 'Blue Valentine,' and the recently-released documentary 'Mission to Lars,' which documents the journey of an autistic fan’s quest to meet the drummer. The directors of both films will on hand to host Q&A sessions.
Other movies showing in the Hit the Lights tent include 'Before the Wall: Body & Being,' a film by Ulrich’s dad, Torben, and the HBO film 'Hemingway & Gellhorn,' in which the drummer portrays Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens.
In addition to showing the movies, Ulrich is personally introducing each film and discussing what he loves about them with those who attend the screenings.
