Jimi Hendrix was named the greatest guitar player in history by Rolling Stone magazine in a list compiled by a panel of music experts and top guitar players.
"Jimi Hendrix exploded our idea of what rock music could be: He manipulated the guitar, the whammy bar, the studio and the stage," said Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello in the magazine, citing Hendrix's "Purple Haze" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" as key tracks.
The panel recruited to vote for their favorite guitar players included Tom Morello, Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains), Elliot Easton (The Cars), Melissa Etheridge, Don Felder (The Eagles), David Fricke (Senior writer, Rolling Stone), Steve Cropper, Dave Davies (The Kinks), Anthony DeCurtis (Contributing editor, Rolling Stone), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Lenny Kravitz, Robby Krieger (The Doors), Jon Landau (Manager), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Nils Lofgren (The E Street Band), Mick Mars (Mötley Crüe), Brian May (Queen), Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Robbie Robertson, Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes), Carlos Santana, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Derek Trucks, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Walsh, Nancy Wilson (Heart), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Tom DeLonge (Blink-182), Rick Derringer, Warren Haynes (The Allman Brothers Band), and many more.
McCready called Eddie Van Halen "a master of riffs" and Joe Perry praised Jimmy Page's "vision of how to transcend the stereotypes of what the guitar can do."

The latest edition of Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp wrapped up last weekend with a Playboy Mansion Finale. Paul Stanley of KISS and Lita Ford are featured in the rehearsal video below, but other rockers that were part of the latest session included: Kip Winger (Winger), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Blue Oyster Cult), Bruce Kulick (KISS, Grand Funk Railroad), Howard Leese (Heart, Bad Company), Mark Hudson, Nils Lofgren (E Street Band, Neil Young), Chris Slade (AC/DC, The Firm), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, David Lee Roth, Talas), Vinnie Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio), Jerry Shirley (Humble Pie, Fastway), Phil Soussan (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol).
In a small rehearsal space on the fringes of North Hollywood, a band is working hard. Feeling their way several times through the Bo Diddley staple, 'Road Runner,' they're finally getting comfortable with each other. Then the band's leader decides to crack the whip.
She stops the band and issues a few orders. "You, come in harder after the first verse," she tells one of the two drummers. "And you," she tells the singer, "I want you to start singing up around here," before hitting the note she wants him to tackle.
The singer has a suggestion after that. "Tonight, I'm thinking of ripping my jacket off and kind of throwing it at a certain point." The boss thinks about it. "Okay," she says. "Do that."
Just another band rehearsal? Not really. The two drummers, two guitarists, bass player and vocalist, have just met a few days earlier. And the bandleader? The woman whose playing styles is as distinctive as her blonde hair and striking good looks: Lita Ford.
