Aerosmith News: Steven Tyler of Aerosmith getting musical advice from Johnny Depp?, “Dream On’ cover part of ‘100 Years of Fenway Park’ album
Johnny Depp recently jammed with Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Alice Cooper at the after party celebrating Depp's latest movie 'Dark Shadows,' but Depp has a history with Aerosmith as does 'Dark Shadows' director Tim Burton. Aerosmith have been holed up in Burton's old Swinghouse recording studio working on the new album and Depp has been dropping by occasionally to check in on the band’s progress.
Tyler explained, "When we are done recording, I go up to Johnny’s house and I play him stuff and I ask if it is any good. He gives me [honest feedback]." Tyler says Depp is qualified to weigh in on the subject. "Johnny is a great musician and many people don’t know that, he plays piano, guitar, he knows his music."
Tyler saiys that ‘Legendary Child,’ Aerosmith’s contribution to the upcoming ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ movie is awesome and the spirit of the film lines up quite well with the band’s own experiences. "'G.I. Joe' [is] about deep space and 'let’s go fight the foe.' And then I thought about where the band came from, and going [into] the music business. If there ever...was a foe, the music business was. So to be successful you had to learn how to climb ladders, jump through hoops and live through burning houses."
Tyler also says the band recently spent 12 hours filming a video for the song and he gives high praise to his longtime mate Perry, who he says was “on fire” when the band was recording the song.
Aerosmith will premiere a new song on the season finale of 'American Idol' on May 23rd. It is not confirmed, but it most likely will be 'Legendary Child', which was an outake from the 'Get A Grip' sessions.
In celebration of the 100th birthday of Fenway Park, members of the Boston Red Sox are featured with Boston area musicians on the commemorative album, ’100 Year Anniversary of Fenway Park.' The album features contemporary recordings of fan favorites that are often heard bellowing at Fenway during games and that are associated with the area’s bands. Current and former Sox players contribute along with special guests and children from the team’s charitable Red Sox Scholars program.
'Sweet Caroline' features home run machine David “Big Papi’ Ortiz providing background vocals and improv while Clay Buchholz plays acoustic guitar. Jon Butcher is joined by Jarrod Saltalamacchia churns out additional guitar licks on a cover of Aerosmith's 'Dream On.' Daniel Bard plays acoustic guitar on album’s debut single, 'Let the Good Times Roll.' He is joined by Extreme lead singer Gary Cherone and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.
Kenny Aronoff, who's currently drumming for Chickenfoot and has worked with John Mellencamp and John Fogerty besides having done session work for a never ending list of musicians, contributed drums.
A portion of the proceeds benefit the Red Sox Foundation, the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox, and its Red Sox Scholars and inner city youth baseball programs. The album will be available exclusively for purchase at the Yawkey Way Store/The Official Red Sox Team Store, as well as at all traditional and digital retailers on May 22nd.

Steel Panther News: EPK for “Balls Out” album, Satchel talks Chad Kroeger, Tiger Woods and more in Guitar World interview, Pole Dancer Cleo has “Eyes Of A Panther”
Steel Panther are getting fired up as the release date gets closer for the new "Balls Out" album. Here's the new EPK featuring Micheal Starr, Satchel and Stix Zadinia- but no Lexxi Foxx. Apparently he was off on a mad stash search and couldn't make the shoot.
The new album comes out November 1st.
Christina Titus of Guitar World interviewed Steel Panther guitarist Satchel recently. Here's a couple of questions from the interview:
How did you convince Chad Kroeger to join you on "It Won't Suck Itself"?
Well, it was not easy to do. He is a very busy guy. We asked if he would write a song with us and after we gave him $25,000 he was like totally into it. So we gave him a bunch of money, and then we went and hung out with him. We went to his house in Vancouver. He's got a mansion. He's got a hockey rink in his house. Amazing. I'm not kidding. A real hockey rink. He was down there playing hockey and we were like, "Holy shit." But we wrote a song with him, and it was bitchin'. He's got a bitchin' studio and he's got like an engineer, and he's got like six different girlfriends in his house. And they all live in different parts of the house and each one of the girlfriends doesn't know that the other one exists. That's how big his house is. He keeps them locked in different parts of the house. It's crazy. So we wrote a song with him and it was fun.
Did you try to out-shred Nuno Bettencourt on that track or did you hold back since he was a guest?
Actually, he's the only one who plays lead guitar on that song, and he was awesome. Nuno is an awesome guitar player, so there is no out-shredding Nuno Bettencourt. I would love to out-shred Nuno Bettencourt but I'm older than him. I've got arthritis, so it's not easy to shred like that for me. But the cool thing is I look just as good as Nuno Bettencourt and that's the only thing that matters to me. And I think Nuno knows that. He knows that I'm hot. It's probably not easy for him to deal with. I sense a little bit of jealousy sometimes from Nuno 'cuz he knows I'm hot. But he's good looking', don't get me wrong. He might be able to outshine me but he can't outshine me with like hotness.
You have a song called "Just Like Tiger Woods" on the new album. Does he know you wrote that song about his experiences?
I think he does know, actually. I don't think he's heard it yet but he will hear it, 'cuz we know some people that know Tiger and I know a guy that's gonna put the CD in Tiger's locker. The guy's on the PGA tour. He's gonna put the CD in Tiger's locker and make sure that Tiger hears the song. So I think Tiger's gonna be stoked, because who wouldn't want a bitchin' song written about how many girls he's had sex with? We're promoting Tiger. He should be happy. He needs promotion now.
The band is touring with Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe at the end of the year, and Mötley are icons of '80s glam metal. Does this mean that Mötley gets first dibs on the groupies?
Mötley is going to have their own groupies that's gonna be there just for them, and Steel Panther, we're gonna have our own groupies too. There may be girls that want to have sex with both bands and there's probably a good chance that we're gonna get some of their sloppy seconds, but there's also a really good chance that they're gonna get some of our sloppy seconds too.
Some of these girls that go to more than one show, we're probably gonna be infecting each other with all kinds of new crazy strains of chlamydia and stuff. The good thing is I've pretty much got all the strains that are out there. I don't have to worry about [it]. I've got a song that I'm writing for the next record called "Can't Catch Herpes Twice," and it's true. It really is true.

Pole Dancer Cleo has the "Eyes Of A Panther" in this demonstration video. How many poles are in that studio anyway?
Chickenfoot top the rock picks this week with the second release from the "Chickenfoot III" album. "Three And A Half Letters (I Need A Job)", speaks on the state of America's economy and it's impact on everyday people. People from all walks of life are facing hunger. Hagar reads heartbreaking letters from those downtrodden by the economy in the song, speaking softly and impacting with each word. At the end of the video, the link to www.feedingamerica.org is on-screen. Please help people in need if you can.
The band will play dates in the U.S. and Europe, with the dates in the U.S. kicking off on November 1st, and dates in the U.K., Denmark, Netherlands and France on January 12th. Here's the upcoming U.S. dates:
ROAD TEST TOUR 2011
November 1 - Warfield Theatre (San Francisco, CA)
November 2 - Avalon Hollywood (Los Angeles, CA)
November 4 - The Pageant (St. Louis, MO)
November 5 - Metro (Chicago, IL)
November 8 - Webster Hall (New York, NY)
Here's the story behind the track:
Sunset Strip legends Steel Panther will release their sophomore album 'Balls Out' November 1st on Universal Republic Records. The latest album features 14 soon to be classics such as "Just Like Tiger Woods," "Gold Digging Whore" and "Weenie Ride." The album also features cameos by Dane Cook on the album opener "In The Future" and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt show up on "It Won't Suck Itself." 'Balls Out' was produced by Grammy nominated producer/mixer Jay Ruston who also produced the band's 'Feel The Steel' debut and has worked with Anthrax, Meatloaf, The Donnas and Morrissey.
Lyrically Steel Panther are solid on this track, being the wordsmiths they are. Lyrics like "I banged 17 girls in a grocery store and never lost my erection", bring the deep truth and growth on this first track follow-up to "Feel The Steel."
Steel Panther continue their regular gigs at House Of Blues in Hollywood and Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas. Steel Panther has been joined on stage by such rock and roll icons as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Paul Stanley of KISS, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Green Day just to name a few. Across the Atlantic, the band has shared arena stages with ZZ Top and rocked an audience of 30,000 at the UK's Download festival. In Germany, 'Feel The Steel' was proclaimed 'Best Debut Album' at the Metal Hammer awards. The band will be heading out on a UK tour with Def Leppard and Motley Crue in December before coming back to start a nationwide tour of the US in 2012. Steel Panther's new single "17 Girls In A Row" is now available for download at iTunes and Amazon.com. After downloading, feel free to play it 17 times in a row because you fucking can!

Metal Masters Mastodon released their highly anticipated album "The Hunter" on Sept. 27. The album is available in a variety of formats, from single CD, to Deluxe Limited Edition Package. The first single "Curl Of The Burl" is doing really well for the Atlanta, Georgia band. I would label Mastodon as a modern Black Sabbath, although "Curl Of The Burl" has the sound of an Trouble track from back in the day. The video was directed by Robert Schober with the concept by Brann Dailor. The guy in the video is seriously trippin'. This is one big acid trip:
The official tracklisting for The Hunter is as follows:
'Curl Of The Burl'
'Octopus Has No Friends'
'All The Heavy Lifting'
'Dry Bone Valley'
'The Ruiner' (with limited edition)

Soundgarden/ex-Audioslave singer Chris Cornell "The Keeper" is the lead single from the soundtrack to the upcoming movie "Machine Gun Preacher". The movie, which stars Gerard Butler as a former drug dealer who becomes a crusader for hundreds of refugee children in war-torn Sudan, opened on September 23. Apparently the song may be the best part of the movie, because reviews weren't glowing to say the least, and the movie looks to have a short run in theaters, despite it's postive message. You can purchase the "The Keeper" here. A portion of all sales will go directly towards Sam Childer's Angels of East Africa charity.
"Machine Gun Preacher" is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.
Here's a great performance of the song on a recent "Late Show With David Letterman"
Cornell will release an album of live "Songbook" tour performances on November 21 via Universal Music Enterprises. It will feature Cornell's own songs as well as a few covers, and all fans who purchase their "Songbook" tour tickets online will receive a digital copy of the album with each order. Chris Cornell is also looking for a fan in each of 21 cities to photograph his upcoming US 'Songbook tour'. Submit your best photo and win a photo pass, tickets, and more! Do it by November 3rd here.

Black Tide's rocking track "That Fire" is up next. "Post Mortem", is the Miami, Florida band’s second album for DGC/Interscope. The band consists of Gabriel Garcia (Guitar, Vocals), Steven Spence (Drums), Austin Diaz (Guitar), and Zakk Sandler (Bass). Black Tide's sophomore offering has been in the making since October 2009. The band did the demo work at a studio in Kansas with producer Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God), then hit a New York studio with Wilbur and Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne) in May 2010. The resulting album shows continued growth by the band in not only the song writing, but the performance on the tracks. Austin Diaz joined the band in 2008, but Post Mortem marks his first time writing with the band. He is classically trained with years of music school under his belt. According to the band, he has made a huge difference in their wrting and performing style now.
The band just wrapped up this years edition of the 2011 Rock Star Energy Drink Uproar Festival and will be announcing more tour dates soon.
