Chickenfoot posted a 10 minute video from the opening night of the Different Devil 2012 tour. Go inside the soundcheck, show and aftershow of their gig on May 4th in South Lake Tahoe, NV!

Drummer Chad Smith rejoined Chickenfoot onstage for the first time on the tour in support of their latest album, 'Chickenfoot III' on May 16th at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre. Kenny Aronoff has been handling the drumming chores due to Smith’s commitment with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Earlier in the set before Chad jammed with the band, Sammy Hagar made a passing reference to him, joking that, "if Chad was here, I’d kick his ass." After the band left the stage, a man in a Kiss t-shirt and backwards baseball cap sat down behind Aronoff’s drums. The fans then realized that it was Smith, and went nuts.

The band proceeded to jam on 'Oh Yeah’, after which Hagar turned to Smith and said, "Chad, you haven’t had this much fun all year and you know it." They then broke into a cover of Jimi Hendrix‘s 'Foxy Lady' with a bit of 'Manic Depression' thrown in. That was followed by 'Different Devil,' then a tribute to the late Ronnie Montrose with a cover of 'Rock Candy,' with Aronoff helping out on the cymbols.

Rock Picks of the Week: The Cult, Megadeth, Nickelback, Adler and Adelitas Way

Rock Picks of the Week: The Cult, Megadeth, Nickelback, Adler and Adelitas Way

The Cult kick off this week's rock picks with the first track released from the new album 'Choice Of Weapon,' which will be released on May 21st. 'For The Animals' features Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy at their best and continues the distinct sound The Cult always deliver. The Cult have always had my respect, but Ian and Billy say it’s about time the band were given the respect they deserve.

In an interview in the latest issue of Classic Rock, Cult guitarist Billy Duffy claims the band have “had very little recognition”, while frontman Ian Astbury rails about “some brutal things” that have been said in the past, including uncalled for jabs against his mother. The British music industry has shunned The Cult throughout the band’s career, Astbury says. “I think Billy and I have been invited to one music awards event, which was the Kerrang! party about 10 years ago.”

Duffy adds: “Not that I picked up the guitar to win awards, but when you see the amount of shite out there that gets all these things. It’s not been the easiest of rides as The Cult. We’ve really had very little recognition, and I think we’re just destined to be one of those underground bands.”

“It doesn’t rankle with me [now],” Astbury says. “When I was younger I really cared about being accepted and being a part of it. It just didn’t go that way for us. I think we just sort of kept out in the field, so to speak. Maybe that’s just the nature of who I am. Maybe I kept us out there. Sometimes it’s nice to feel a part of what’s going on.

The singer continues: “There’s been some brutal things said about me as an individual and the band as a whole. In one article it said my mother ‘must have been sniffing glue when she gave birth’ to me. One of the worst things to do is to put down someone’s mother. Especially my mother. I watched my mother die in squalor in a Glasgow tenement. She died of cancer. That was pretty brutal. I was a young musician as well. I was in my early 20s, so getting that kind of stuff thrown at you was pretty heavy.”

“Johnny Marr [Smiths guitarist] said to me once that I almost tell it too plain,” Duffy says. “He said that he’s read interviews where I really tell it like it is, and he doesn’t necessarily know whether: A) anybody wants to hear it like it is or, B) whether that serves me as best as I should. But I don’t really know how to do it any other way.”

Astbury concludes: “It’s weird when you’re being interviewed, because you want to be as honest as you possibly can but even in the depths of yourself you’re going: ‘I can’t say that.’ There are some things you shouldn’t share. There are some things I share that are dangerous to share."

The video for 'For the Animals' reflects the socially and economically divided world that we find ourselves facing. Ian Astbury said about the clip: "'For The Animals' is a metaphor for people existing in a realm outside of structured society and what cultural editors deem to be relevant. It could be the feral punk rock kids squatting in abandoned homes or the spirited individual who has little regard for social conventions. It's for people who choose not to tow the party line or try to fit in. It's for the free-thinkers who are creative and dynamic."

The video captures the rising tensions and frustration of a growing group of disenfranchised youth. The provocative clip, from visionary director Michelle Peerali and starring hot young actress Hanna Mosqueda as the lead character, portrays the 19-year-old protagonist transforming from a lost and abandoned youth, overwhelmed by the state of the world large and at her own poor economic status and broken family at home, into an empowered strong woman who finds her inner strength in the end.

In the film clip, we see the lead character navigate a chaotic world looking for an answer only to realize in the end that what she was looking for all along was within her the whole time. "She realizes that the only solution for change is actually within her. It's about her self-awareness, inner strength, and waking her internal life, realizing she has to take command of the situation and has the power to break through," says Astbury, who appears in a cameo role along with band mates Billy Duffy (guitar), John Tempesta (drums), and Chris Wyse (bass). "In the end, she finds others who feel the same way. The message being, 'if you feel you don't fit it, it's okay. There are others out there. The tribe is there.'"

As Astbury sings in "For The Animals", the song and film clip is "for all the fucked up children staring down the barrel of a gun," a real and metaphorical image, the social, economic, and environmental cards this generation of youth has been dealt. It's a theme that is put into sharp focus by an aware Astbury on the band's new album, "Choice Of Weapon", due May 21 on Cooking Vinyl.

"Your choice of weapon can be anything you use to deal with your world. It could be self-knowledge. I think we're at a crossroads, as individuals and as a society, to define our intentions in life. What do you choose to do with your life? What do you need to really flourish? How do I not get stuck being a slave to convention? And as the character in the film clip writes on the wall, 'How many more ways will they find to reinvent boredom?'"

Megadeth have released the next single 'Whose Life (Is it Anyway)' from the album 'TH1RT3N' with a new lyric video. A song about fighting supression, keeping freedoms and individualism. Getting ready for a revolution with this one.

Here's some video of David Ellefson and Chris Broderick at PNC Center in New Jersey getting ready for the start of the co-headlining tour with Rob Zombie on May 11th.

Here's the remaining dates won the Rob Zombie/Megadeth tour:
May 13 - Columbia, MD - Merriweather Post Pavilion
May 16 - Pittsburgh, PA - Stage AE
May 18 - Grand Rapids, MI - The Deltaplex
May 19 - St. Louis, MO - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
May 20 - Columbus, OH - Rock On The Range
May 22 - La Crosse, WI - La Crosse Center
May 24 - Sioux City, IA - Tyson Center
May 25 - Wichita, KS - Hartman Arena
May 26 - Pryor, OK - Rocklahoma

Megadeth will be performing their 1992 album, 'Countdown To Extinction,' in its entirety at the Pepsi Center in Mexico City, Mexico on September 19, and at the Arena VFG in Guadalajara, Mexico on September 21. Local act RAXAS is confirmed as the support act for both shows.

Nickelback's 'This Means War' is up next. It's the third single from the 'Here And Now' album, and it is a crunchy rocker. Nickelback have now sold over 50 million albums worldwide and are the leading selling foreign group in the U.S. in the 2000's after the Beatles (they are Canadian you know). The band got their name from bassist Mike Kroeger, who was working at a Starbucks, and when giving change to customers, would say "Here's your Nickel back." Regardless of what you think of Nickelback, I'm liking the fact that they continue to make fun of the comments the haters post. They have obviously embraced and know who they are, what they do, and the niche they fill. I am not a hater and appreciate that in this digital music age, Chad Kroeger and the guys have found a way to continually put out hit songs, albums and videos, don't give a shit what anybody thinks, and on top of that will engage the haters.

Here's some recent video of the band talking hockey and Chad Kroeger's indoor ice rink. Nickelback will be performing on the NHL Awards in Las Vegas on June 20th. The band continues their current tour with Bush, Seether and My Darkest Days all summer long.
My Darkest Days have released the title track 'Sick And Twisted Affair' as their next single. The guys are following up the success of the first single form the album 'Casual Sex.', with the new video not as explicit as the last, but it definetly shows the boys in their element out on the road, documenting pre-show, during show and after-show activities at what can only be construed as a typical club date for the band. Vocalist Matt Walst, guitarist Sal Costa, keboadist/guitarist Reid Henry, drummer Doug Oliver and bassist Brendon McMillan are having a great time, and I'm sure that is continuing as the opening act on the current tour with Nickelback, Bush and Seether. The tour continues May 15th in Edmonton at the Rexall Place, with dates booked all summer long up to July 30th in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"The One That You Hated," the debut single from former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler’s new band, Adler is next up in Rock Picks. The video features the band performing the track while scantily-clad, heavily tattooed women dance around them.

It's a solid track from what is probably the best band Adler has put together since his departure from Guns N' Roses. "The lyrics are about two people that are no good for each other, but for whatever reason won't break up," frontman Jacob Bunton told Rolling Stone about the song. "Maybe it's the sex, maybe it's the convenience, maybe they're just scared to move on and start over, but a lot of people seem to be attracted to the people that they hate. Love and hate are intimately linked within the human brain."

Bunton added that former GN’R guitarist Slash, who makes a guest appearance on the forthcoming album, got to check out the track. "One night Slash was at the studio and we played him a couple of the songs," says Bunton. "When this song started playing, he was grinning ear to ear, so we knew either it's a kick-ass song or it's so bad we're making him laugh."

Adler’s as-yet-untitled debut album is expected to hit stores sometime this year.

Las Vegas rockers Adelitas Way wrap up Rock Picks with their latest track 'Critize,' another blistering track from the 'Home School Valedictorian' album. Rick DeJesus, Tre Stafford, Keith Wallen, Robert Zakaryan, Derek Johnston have had quite the successful 2011-12 and continue it with this track. It has been out for awhile, but I am playing catch-up on some tracks, and this is one of them. They recently wrapped up the Avalanche tour, and are continuing with some headlining and festival dates until August 15th, when the guys will hook up for the kick-off of the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival with Shinedown, Godsmack, Staind, Papa Roach, P.O.D., Fozzy, Redlight King, Deuce, Thousand Foot Krutch, Redlight King, Candlelight Red, In This Moment and Mindset Revolution. Rock Picks of the Week: Evanescence, SuperHeavy, Puddle Of Mudd, Alice Cooper, Blink 182

by on Aug.23, 2011, under LINKS, ROCK NEWS, ROCK PICKS, VIDEO

Rock Picks of the Week: Evanescence, SuperHeavy, Puddle Of Mudd, Alice Cooper, Blink 182

Evanescence are the first Rock Pick of the Week with "What You Want" from the self-titled new album out October 11. It's good to have Amy Lee and the band back, with a solid lead track from the upcoming long delayed release.

It will be the first new album in since 2006 for Evanescence, who have been through band member changes, producer changes, label issues and more. An entire album was recorded and slated for release last year, but the entire project was scrapped due to the electronic sound of the album, which many felt wasn't the right sound or move for Amy Lee and the band.

Evanescence play Rock In Rio on October 2nd and a show in Puerto Rico on October 6th, before kicking off a U.S. tour on October 10 at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, California. It looks to be a big 2011-12 for Evanescence!

Fast Tube

Up next is another "supergroup"...SuperHeavy. The SuperHeavy lineup features Jagger, Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart, singer Joss Stone, composer A.R. Rahman and reggae artist Damian Marley. “Miracle Worker” is the lead track from the band’s debut, due out September 20 in North America. More reggae than rock, it still warrants a rock pick of the week. It is an interesting, diverse project that is a great blend of musical styles and personalities.

The song features lead vocals shared by Stone, Marley and Jagger as they cruise through the light, bouncy reggae-influenced track. Jagger and Stewart co-produced the album, which was recorded in various studios around the world, including those in France, Cyprus, Miami and India. The majority of the tracks were laid down over three weeks in Los Angeles earlier this year. The quartet wrote 22 songs in their first six days together.

Here's a fantatstic in-studio clip posted by the band:

I have to follow up Mick Jagger's new band with a Rolling Stones connection, as Puddle of Mudd have released a cover of the Stones "Gimmie Shelter" as the first track released from their upcoming album "re (disc)overd" out August 30.

"It wasn't our plan to do an album of cover tunes," says Puddle of Mudd guitarist Paul Phillips of the group's new record, "We were on a bit of a break, during which time some touring offers came in. We didn't want to go out there without something new, and one day the idea of a covers album came up. The whole thing felt very exciting."

And with that, the band (which also consists of vocalist Wes Scantlin, bassist Paul Ardito and drummer Shannon Boone) who already included AC/DC's T.N.T. and Steve Miller's The Joker in their live show, drew up a wish list of other rock classics to fill out re:(disc)overed. "We tried to pick songs that inspired us, by artists who really influenced us," Phillips says. "With the exception of a couple of songs, we made our selections pretty quickly."

Puddle of Mudd continue on the Rock Allegiance Tour with Buckcherry, Papa Roach, P.O.D., Red, Crossfade & Drive A through September.

Check out this breakdown of the album track by track from musicradar.com.

"I'll Bite Your Face Off", the first single from his Alice Cooper's upcoming "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" album is up next. Apparently it was inspired by The Rolling Stones. Speaking recently with NME, Cooper explained that the song "is my tip-of-the-hat to early Rolling Stones," adding, "This song was begging to be in the live show. We've done it in four different continents now and no one had ever heard it. By the second chorus, the whole audience is singing 'I'll Bite Your Face Off'. It's the perfect little three-minute hit single."

Cooper said that the song is influenced by the Stones "like in 1964/65 when their songs were very Chuck Berry-orientated. They just feel so good, in the pocket."

"Welcome 2 My Nightmare", the long-awaited "sequel" to Cooper's 1975 Top Five solo classic "Welcome To My Nightmare", arrives on September 13. Cooper is in the midst of a North American tour. "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" features original Alice Cooper Band members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith, who reunited for three tracks; current pop superstar Ke$ha, who affectionately calls Alice "dad" — and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice's current touring band and was featured prominently on the first "Nightmare" album.

Blink 182 are back and have a top 5 track on the alternative rock chart already with "Up All Night". Bassist Mark Hoppus, vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLonge, and drummer Travis Barker have sold over 27 million albums worldwide since forming in Poway, California in 1992. Their sixth studio album, Neighborhoods, is scheduled to be released on September 27. The Blinkumentary, a documentary film about the band, is also scheduled for release this fall.

The band is currently on the Honda Civic Tour with My Chemical Romance, continuing until an October 8th gig at The Hollywood Bowl. Blink 182 will also be a part of the VOODOO Music Experience 2011 in New Orleans on Oct. 28-30.
