Lit returning with new album ‘The View From the Bottom’ on June 19, check out new video for ‘Same Shit, Different Drink’
Orange County, Calif. rockers Lit are set to invade stores again after eight years away from the studio, with 'The View From the Bottom' via Megaforce Records. It's the band's fifth studio album. Lit first went Platinum with their 1999 album 'A Place in the Sun' album which spawned the huge radio tracks "My Own Worst Enemy," "Miserable" and "Zip-Lock."
Vocalist A. Jay Popoff told Noisecreep that 'Same Shit, Different Drink' unapologetically sounds like their classic singles: "We worked with Butch Walker in the past and had a lot of fun together, so we decided to hook up with him again for this new album. One day we headed out to Santa Monica and had lunch with him and we talked about the kind of Lit record we wanted to make since we had been away for a while. Then we said, "Let's not overthink this and just go in there and write a song today that talks about the things we're experts in." So we did.
"We've always been a party band that likes to drink, fuck shit up and then repair the damage [laughs]. I think "Same Shit, Different Drink" is sort of like part two of "My Own Worst Enemy." It's a drinking song and it's signature Lit."
Lit just completed headlining gigs during April and May and will hook up for the Summerland Tour with Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms and Marcy Playground starting June 28th in Saratago, California.

Sebastian Bach has released the folowing statement in regards to the death of former Warrant vocalist Jani Lane: "People have been asking me about Jani Lane & I really don't know what to say. Picturing him by himself in a Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills with a bottle of vodka & a bottle of pills is so typical of what a rock musician's life actually is. It is a life marked by extremes. Extreme attention from people you don't know, while all the work & travel takes you away from those you actually do know. Playing to thousands of people & then going back to your hotel room & shutting the door.
When the door shuts... the quiet is the exact opposite of the volume of the concert. The solitude of the empty hotel room becomes the diametric parallel of the adulation of strangers. For some, the bottle of vodka or whatever becomes a friend that is always there for you while others come & go.
Yes I have felt these emotions myself. If you see me going head over heels over a girl, it's because all I have ever wanted is to have a girl to love & share my life with, & for the one I love to be with me wherever I'm at, travel with me to distant locales & stay in nice kick ass hotel suites & have fun & sing & dance & see the world. But so far this is a fantasy.
Just like Jani, I spend most of my time alone in a hotel room dreaming of a girl I love who is somewhere else. I bet Jani Lane felt exactly what I feel. How could he not? I remember decades ago being invited to Jani's house for a barbeque, which we went to. But Jani didn't show up. So I spent the afternoon with Jani's Dad cooking burgers & steaks & having a wonderful day with his family.
My condolences to his family & especially Jani's children who now only have memories of their Dad to hold on to. That is truly heartbreaking. Let this be yet another lesson to tell someone some kind words sometimes... before it's too late... while they are still alive. I can guarantee Jani Lane would not have anticipated everyone coming out of the woodwork extolling the life & times of Jani Lane. Which is why he probably died alone. In a hotel room. With his only real friend... that killed him in the end."
Jani Lane's older sister, Vicky Oswald-Ley told RadarOnline.com "Alcoholism is not something he chose. It’s something he fought everyday and it just won. There were no drugs, that was one thing he could not tolerate, he couldn't stand them. He did not do drugs," she revealed from her home in Brimfield Township, Ohio, adding. "We don’t have the autopsy report back yet, but he was a heavy drinker and I can only guess that alcoholism has a lot to do with it."
Oswald-Ley says her little brother, whose real name was John Kennedy Oswald, had fought his demons with drink for the past decade.
"He would get clean and sober and then fall off the wagon. Our mom died seven years ago, and she was always the glue that kept us together," she explained through her tears. "She would always talk him into going to rehab and hospitals. I think when she passed that desire to stay healthy died too. He was so talented and witty and bright, but he shut his siblings out and I know that is because he was ashamed of his drinking. We would all have flown out to Los Angeles from Ohio to bring him back if he'd let us but he isolated himself. There wasn't a day when one of us didn’t try to contact him."
Investigators found a half-empty bottle of vodka and prescription medication in the hotel room where Jani Lane died yesterday (August 11th) TMZ has learned. Paramedics were called to the Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, CA yesterday around 5:15 PM. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Lane's death is being treated as an accidental overdose or a possible death from natural causes.
An autopsy performed Friday on late WARRANT singer Jani Lane proved inconclusive pending the results of toxicology tests, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter says it may take seven or eight weeks to finalize the cause of death.
But some of those close to Lane have already drawn their own conclusions. "He lost his battle over alcohol," said longtime friend and manager Obi Steinman, who noted that Lane had struggled with alcoholism for years and had racked up at least two DUI arrests. "He was one of the great rock-and-roll frontmen and singers of all time," Steinman said. "His music helped shape the '80s." Steinman said that Lane's family will hold a private memorial service on Sunday and that a public memorial, featuring performances by metal bands such as Great White and L.A. Guns will be held Aug. 24 at a venue to be determined.
More rockers shared their thoughts about the passing of Jani Lane:
We'd like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Jani Lane regarding their loss. Respectfully, Bret and all at MEGI," Bret Michaels tweeted.
"R.I.P. Jani Lane...a true songwriter and one of the most underrated voices in rock n roll, unfairly looked over because of hair metal tag," added Mark "Sugar Ray" McGrath.
"Jani Lane's is yet another sad story of a boy who attained his dreams of greatness, only to be blindsided by the pressures, temptations and disappointments of those same dreams, We all watched over the years, as he soared, stumbled, fell, then got up again and again. Tragically, he will get up no more. RIP Jani.", wrote Dee Snider of Twisted Sister.
