Ronnie James Dio Tribute album ‘This Is Your Life’ to be released April 1

A new tribute album celebrating the legacy and life of Ronnie James Dio is set for release 0n April 1st. Titled 'This Is Your Life', the album features new covers of songs from Dio's entire career with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell by a number of hard rock's biggest names.

Metallica recorded the 'Ronnie Rising Medley, a nine-minute medley of songs from Dio's years in Rainbow, including 'Stargazer,' 'Kill the King,' 'Tarot Woman' and 'A Light in the Black.' Anthrax offer the Black Sabbath track 'Neon Knights' and Motörhead along with Saxon vocalist Biff Byford bring the Rainbow track 'Starstruck.' The Scorpions rock 'The Temple Of The King,' with Halestorm contributing 'Straight Through The Heart.'

Rob Halford teams up with Dio alum Vinny Appice, Doug Aldrich, Jeff Pilson, and Scott Warren for 'The Man On The Silver Mountain.' Corey Taylor (Stone Sour, Slipknot) covers 'Rainbow In The Dark,' with Jack Black and Kyle Glass of Tenacious D bringing their version of 'The Last In Line.' Killswitch Engage’s cover from 2006 of 'Holy Diver' is included, as is Doro's take on 'Egypt (The Chains Are On).' Adrenaline Mob rocks 'The Mob Rules' and a group, led by Oni Logan on vocals along with Jimmy Bain, Rowan Robertson, and Brian Tichy, perform 'I.' Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Trapeze, Black Sabbath, Black Country Communion) joins other members of Dio’s solo band: Simon Wright, Craig Goldy, Rudy Sarzo and Scott Warren for 'Catch The Rainbow.' a track from Rainbow’s debut album.

Dio lost his battle with stomach cancer in 2010 but his spirit and legacy live on. Proceeds from the album will benefit the Ronnie James Dio Stand UP and Shout Cancer Fund, the non-profit charity fund co-founded by Dio's widow Wendy (who also produced the album). The organization is dedicated to supporting cancer-prevention research, raising awareness and educating the public about the vital importance of early detection and prevention.

2013 Grammy Nominations announced

The 2013 Grammy Award nominations were announced last night on a nationally televised special on CBS, with Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney each receiving multiple nominations and the Black Keys singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach up for six grammmys. Other notable nominees are Jack White, The Rolling Stones, Trent Reznor, Muse and Tenacious D, with Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Marilyn Manson and Megadeth up for the best hard rock/metal performance. Linkin Park rocked Jimmy Kimmel Live last Wednesday and Thursday nights (June 27 & 28) to perform 'Burn it Down' and 'Faint' on Wednesday, and returning to rock Jimmy Kimmel’s outdoor stage on Thursday with the new tune 'Lies Greed Misery' and 'New Divide,' the theme from the 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ movie.' Linkin Park are projected to debut atop the charts next week with 'Living Things,' with Billboard .com projecting sales of about 220,000 copies.

Revolver Golden Gods Awards complete recap (interviews and performances)

The Revolver Golden Gods Awards 2012 took place at the Nokia Theater in Hollywood this past Wednesday night (Apr.11) and for the first time ever, it was broadcast live in its entirety on Xbox LIVE, as well as on the Xbox and Revolver Facebook pages.

Fozzy frontman and WWE pro-wrestling legend Chris Jericho, returned to host the show for the third consecutive year, with a who's who of the rock and metal world in attendance as presenters and guests.

The Golden God Award, given to one special honoree a year who embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal, went to Gene Simmons of KISS. (Previous honorees include hard-rock and metal legends Alice Cooper, Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth.)

The show featured performances and collaborations that honored both the past, present and future of heavy music. The night’s hard-rocking musical performances included sets by Marilyn Manson (in his first U.S. performance in nearly three years); Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators; Evanescence; SIXX: A.M. featuring Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, James Michael, acclaimed rock producer and songwriter, and DJ Ashba of Guns N' Roses (in their first performance in almost four years); Trivium, and 2011 “Best New Band” Golden Gods Award winner Black Veil Brides, who performed their only U.S. show of 2012 so far.
