The Cro-Mags issue statement after former bassist’s attack during CBGB Festival

The Cro-Mags have issued a statement following former bassist Harley Flanagan’s maniacal attack on current band members during New York’s CBGB’s Festival, which caused part of it to be cancelled. Flanagan attacked members of the band’s current lineup and stabbed at least two people. He sustained a broken leg during his assault and was changed with second-degree assault and carrying a concealed weapon while he waited for medical attention in hospital.

Police cancelled the rest of the event in Webster Hall. Cro-Mags frontman John Joseph told the audience: “You can thank Harley Flanagan for ruining the night for everyone.” Event organisers added: “Live music can be incredibly uplifting, empowering and positive. We don’t feel the actions of one person should overshadow four amazing days and nights of events.”

Flanagan, one of the founders of The Cro-Mags, slashed two members of the band with a knife in the VIP area of the Big Apple’s Webster Hall. He was arrested and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

“They think they’re going to play my fuckin’ music that I helped write?” Flanagan allegedly yelled before stabbing William Berario and Michael Couls, the latter being the band’s current bassist.

The Cro-Mags’ statement reads as follows:

“We as a band are truly sorry for the way it all turned out in every regard, even the ex-member whose family is now affected by his choices.

“Our prayers go out to them as well as Mike C, and the others who were hurt, but it was ‘his’ choice to come to our concert with a hunting knife, standing by our dressing-room door.

“Who knows what his actual intent was, obviously he wasn’t there with it to cut bread for a peace offering as he was heard saying outside he was putting an end to us playing without him. Let’s move on now and stop the trash-talking.

“Keep that PMA (positive mental attitude) – that’s what we are all about.”

Here's an interesting take on the whole situation from Steven Blush at www.papermag.com

Guns N’ Roses News: East Coast Club tour announced, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Will Guns N’ Roses reunite…or even show up?

Guns N’ Roses News: East Coast Club tour announced, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Will Guns N’ Roses reunite…or even show up?

Guns N' Roses have announced a special east coast club tour, coinciding with Fashion Week in New York, including a stop at Webster Hall. It's been 24 years since Guns N' Roses played the venue, and in the spirit of the occasion, Webster Hall will be renamed 'The Ritz' (on the marquee) just for the night. Shows are also scheduled in Chicago, Atlantic City and Silver Spring, Md.

Pre-sale tickets are already on sale for the New York dates, with general on-sale starting Wednesday. Tickets and VIP packages for all six dates will be available at at the group's website.

Guns N' Roses recently wrapped up an arena tour, playing more than 30 shows in the United States. The band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14.

Guns N' Roses 'Up Close and Personal' Club Tour
Feb. 10 - New York, NY - Roseland Ballroom
Feb. 12 - New York, NY - Terminal 5
Feb. 15 - New York, NY - The Ritz a.k.a Webster Hall
Feb. 19 - Chicago, IL - House of Blues
Feb. 23 - Silver Springs, MD - The Fillmore
Feb. 24 - Atlantic City, NJ - House of Blues

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Cleveland on April 14 (and will air on HBO in May), and speculation continues if all of GnR will show, and especially if Slash and Axl Rose will share the stage together once again. Axl once said back in 2009 to Billboard about the possibility of playing with guitarist Slash: “One of the two of us will die before a reunion. However sad, ugly or unfortunate anyone views it, it is how it is.”

Drummer Matt Sorum recently shared his thoughts about the possibility of an original band lineup to Australia’s TheVine: “It's going to be as big of a train wreck as the Sex Pistols, Blondie, or any of those other bands. That's my prediction. Or Van Halen, which I don't know if you saw, but we (Velvet Revolver) were involved in that. Train wreck; it was a complete train wreck. But maybe it won't; maybe it will be a miracle; I hope for that and put out the positive vibrations. But it's coming up pretty quickly.” During an appearance on a morning TV show in Australia, Sorum was asked if he keeps in touch with his former bandmates. He responded, “I'm in a band called Velvet Revolver with Slash and Duff McKagan -- we were all original Guns N’ Roses members -- and so we still have a band. And then Axl is doing his thing; we're split up right now. So everyone's hope for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is that we get on stage together. I just spoke to the original drummer, Steven Adler, last night, who I replaced in 1990, and then came over here to Australia and did the biggest concert in the southern hemisphere at the time -- at Eastern Creek; it was 100,000 people. So Steven and me are talking, and we're all gonna go, hopefully, and have a good time.”

Slash, who is currently busy recording his next solo album with vocalist Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge),  has admitted that he has been checking out old performance footage of the group.

He told Esquire magazine, "When I see footage of Guns N' Roses, I see that f**king hunger and attitude. You could not f*** with those five guys. It was just raw. It was this lean, hungry thing on its way up. It was as sincere as any rock 'n' roll that I've ever heard, and I'm proud of that. The split between Axl and I was a quiet one. But because there was so much attention on the break-up - and are we going to get back together - it got built up into this monster that led to a kind of animosity that wasn't the focus for me. Neither one of us wants to be down each other's throats for no reason. At this point, I'm trying to put it to rest."

We'll see what happens, but Axl will not want to exclude his current band members, many of whom have been playing with Axl longer that the members in the classic lineup have. Sorum may be right, the just may be the ultimate rock and roll train wreck. At the very least, the tension will be very high in the room, and it will be must see TV.

Chickenfoot top the rock picks this week with the second release from the "Chickenfoot III" album. "Three And A Half Letters (I Need A Job)", speaks on the state of America's economy and it's impact on everyday people. People from all walks of life are facing hunger. At the end of the video, the link to www.feedingamerica.org  is on-screen. Please help people in need if you can.

Sunset Strip legends Steel Panther will release their sophomore album 'Balls Out' November 1st on Universal Republic Records. The latest album features 14 soon to be classics such as "Just Like Tiger Woods," "Gold Digging Whore" and "Weenie Ride." The album also features cameos by Dane Cook on the album opener "In The Future" and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt show up on "It Won't Suck Itself." 'Balls Out' was produced by Grammy nominated producer/mixer Jay Ruston who also produced the band's 'Feel The Steel' debut and has worked with Anthrax, Meatloaf, The Donnas and Morrissey.

Lyrically Steel Panther are solid on this track, being the wordsmiths they are. Lyrics like "I banged 17 girls in a grocery store and never lost my erection", bring the deep truth and growth on this first track follow-up to "Feel The Steel."

Steel Panther continue their regular gigs at House Of Blues in Hollywood and Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas. Steel Panther has been joined on stage by such rock and roll icons as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Paul Stanley of KISS, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Green Day just to name a few. Across the Atlantic, the band has shared arena stages with ZZ Top and rocked an audience of 30,000 at the UK's Download festival. In Germany, 'Feel The Steel' was proclaimed 'Best Debut Album' at the Metal Hammer awards. The band will be heading out on a UK tour with Def Leppard and Motley Crue in December before coming back to start a nationwide tour of the US in 2012. Steel Panther's new single "17 Girls In A Row" is now available for download at iTunes and Amazon.com. After downloading, feel free to play it 17 times in a row because you fucking can!

Metal Masters Mastodon released their highly anticipated album "The Hunter" on Sept. 27. The album is available in a variety of formats, from single CD, to Deluxe Limited Edition Package. The first single "Curl Of The Burl" is doing really well for the Atlanta, Georgia band. I would label Mastodon as a modern Black Sabbath, although "Curl Of The Burl" has the sound of an Trouble track from back in the day. The video was directed by Robert Schober with the concept by Brann Dailor. The guy in the video is seriously trippin'. This is one big acid trip:

The official tracklisting for The Hunter is as follows:
'Black Tongue'

Check out this video from Roadrunner Records UK talking about the new album:

Soundgarden/ex-Audioslave singer Chris Cornell "The Keeper" is the lead single from the soundtrack to the upcoming movie "Machine Gun Preacher". The movie, which stars Gerard Butler as a former drug dealer who becomes a crusader for hundreds of refugee children in war-torn Sudan, opened on September 23. Apparently the song may be the best part of the movie, because reviews weren't glowing to say the least, and the movie looks to have a short run in theaters, despite it's postive message. You can purchase the "The Keeper" here. A portion of all sales will go directly towards Sam Childer's Angels of East Africa charity.

"Machine Gun Preacher" is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption.

Chris Cornell is also looking for a fan in each of 21 cities to photograph his upcoming US 'Songbook tour'. Submit your best photo and win a photo pass, tickets, and more! Do it by November 3rd here.

Black Tide's rocking track "That Fire" is up next. "Post Mortem", is the Miami, Florida band’s second album for DGC/Interscope. The band consists of Gabriel Garcia (Guitar, Vocals), Steven Spence (Drums), Austin Diaz (Guitar), and Zakk Sandler (Bass). Black Tide's sophomore offering has been in the making since October 2009. The band did the demo work at a studio in Kansas with producer Josh Wilbur (Lamb of God), then hit a New York studio with Wilbur and Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne) in May 2010. The resulting album shows continued growth by the band in not only the song writing, but the performance on the tracks. Austin Diaz joined the band in 2008, but Post Mortem marks his first time writing with the band. He is classically trained with years of music school under his belt. According to the band, he has made a huge difference in their wrting and performing style now.

The band just wrapped up this years edition of the 2011 Rock Star Energy Drink Uproar Festival and will be announcing more tour dates soon.
