Shinedown talk ‘Through The Ghost’ track from new album ‘Amaryllis’, footage from tour opener in Anaheim (video)

Shinedown's new album 'Amaryllis' was released on Tuesday (Mar. 27) and  vocalist Brent Smith sat down with ARTISTdirect.com to discuss some of the specifics pertaining to it.

Smith zeroed in on the song "Through the Ghost," saying it's about waking up in the morning and looking at yourself in the mirror and not recognizing the person you are starting at.

It's like you lost yourself and the song tries to figure out a way to find yourself again. Check it out here:www.artistdirect.com

Smith contends that despite the weighty subject matter, the song is not sad, even though it's dramatic. The listener should feel some peace and like they've reached a reset point when the song ends; as in, he or she should want to listen to the album again.

Brent Smith, Zach Myers, Eric Bass and Barry Kersch of Shinedown kicked off their Avalance tour at the Grove in Anaheim, CA. on March 27th. Adelitas Way will open up all the dates of the tour, with New Medicine third of the bill for the first leg, with Art of Dying taking that slot halfway through the tour. I always find fantastic concert footage from miked665 on youtube of all the best Southern California hard rock shows. Former Warrant Frontman Jani Lane Dead at 47

by on Aug.11, 2011, under ROCK NEWS, VIDEO

Jani Lane, ex-Warrant vocalist is dead at the age of 47. Lane's body was discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, CA. So far, no official cause of death has been released.

TMZ first reported earlier today of his death. Lane was pronounced dead by Fire Department personnel who responded to a call shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the Comfort Inn in the 20100 block of Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, California, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

On July 23, Lane taped an upcoming episode of the "That Metal Show" alongside Michael Sweet (Stryper) and Taime Downe (Faster Pussycat). The show featuring Lane will air on October 1st on VH1 Classic.

Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue, SIXX: A.M.): "I just heard the sad news about Jani Lane. So hard to swallow when people have kids. RIP."

Alice Cooper: "Our thoughts go out to our fallen brother Jani Lane, his family, his friends and his fans."

Michael Sweet (Stryper): "My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Jani Lane. Had the pleasure of meeting him on 'That Metal Show' and he was a great guy."

Steven Adler (Guns N' Roses, Adler's Appetite): "Jani Lane, you were a great talent. The world will miss you. R.I.P. my brother."

Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, Black Sabbath): "[Rest in peace] Jani Lane... another one lost. . . We must remember that the unlucky ones who lose their life to alcohol and drugs, are those that could not completely surrender. Sad day."

Mark Slaughter (Slaughter): "Fly to the angels, Jani. RIP my friend."

Eddie Trunk (VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show"): "My God, Jani Lane found dead. Just saw him and he is in the new season of 'That Metal Show'. I am stunned. So sad. . . Just had a great time with him in L.A. RIP. Another talent gone way too soon."

Chris Jericho (Fozzy): "Sad to hear about the passing of Jani Lane. Jani was a good guy and one of the best songwriters in the late '80s. 'Dog Eat Dog' — very underrated."

Bret Michaels (Poison): "We'd like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of Jani Lane regarding their loss."

Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom Of Sorrow): "Sad news about Jani Lane. 47 is too young to go."

Dito Godwin (multi-platinum-award-winning producer who has previously worked with Motley Crue, Peter Criss, Ace Frehley and Great White, among others): "I've been working with Jani Lane over the last few months putting songs together in an effort to supply some of my clients with his incredible songs as well as putting a record together for him to possibly release on my label. His passing has shocked and saddened me to the point of tears. A great person whose talent was far greater than most people will ever know. I produced a number of songs for his solo project in the late '90s. My connection with Jani as artist and producer was textbook perfect. Upon completion of those sessions, we both said it was a mind-blowing experience to work together and we would do it again, [and] we did. The world will truly miss Jani Lane. I'm so lucky to have been a small part of his life. RIP Jani. I'm numb!!"

Trixter: "Thoughts and prayers for Jani Lane's family and friends. Jani will be missed. Heaven isn't too far away..."

Black Tide: "RIP Jani Lane, you were such a huge inspiration, and you will be missed greatly. It was an honor to meet you."

Zach Myers (Shinedown): "Terrible news about Jani Lane. Life is fragile, people ....Help somebody every chance you get..."

Wednesday 13 (Murderdolls): "Just heard, so sad...former WARRANT singer Jani Lane dead At 47, R.I.P."

Stephen Pearcy (Ratt): "Sad to hear today. R.I.P. Jani Lane."

Jani Lane was born February 1st, 1964 in Akron, Ohio. He went on to sing on seven Warrant studio albums:

Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich
Cherry Pie
Dog Eat Dog
Ultraphobic
Belly To Belly
Greatest & Latest
Under The Influence

After leaving Warrant, Lane issued a solo album, Back Down To One. That was followed by a brief stint with Saints Of The Underground, who only released one album - Love The Sin, Hate The Sinner.

After he left Warrant in 2004 a year later he surfaced to clean up his act during the 2005 season of VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club." After cleaning up his act he rejoined the group in 2008 only to leave it again months later, this time for good.

Lane was arrested twice in recent years on DUI charges and he ended up serving time in jail.

Most recently Lane acted as a hired gun as recently at 2010 for Great White.

He is survived by his four children; Taylar, Brittany, Madison and Ryan.
