The Cars just released their first new album in 24 years “Move Like This” this past Tuesday, and it is a welcome return! The album has that classic Cars sound, with some up tempo rockers, and introspective ballads. Frontman/songwriter Ric Ocasek, drummer David Robinson, bassist/keyboardist Greg Hawkes and guitarist Elliot Easton began rehearsals in October 2009 and started recording the album last June.
The band found their chemistry immediately, even though original bassist and singer Benjamin Orr was missing. Ben Orr died of pancreatic cancer back in 2000, and sang on The Cars staple “Drive”. The band decided that he couldn’t be replaced, so Hawkes took over the bass duties. The band just kicked off their first tour in 24 years as well, with some footage below (we won’t count that “New Cars” thing with Todd Rundgren).
