A new Black Keys tribute album featuring rock legends from raging from Cream drummer Ginger Baker to guitarist Pat Travers and many other rock legends lineup of musicians called ‘Black On Blues’ is slated for release July 17th.
The 14 track collection from Cleopatra Records includes a version of ‘Lonely Boy’ from the band’s latest album ‘El Camino,’ with Baker behind the kit and Iggy Pop, on vocals.
‘Black On Blues’ also features Dave Davies of the Kinks, Leslie West of Mountain, guitar rocker Pat Travers and blues man Albert Lee, among others.
Leslie West is a big supporter of the Keys, saying about the band: “I LOVE THIS FRIGGIN’ GROUP. Great songs and great melodies. Sometimes you need talent, sometimes you need luck. This was luck being asked to do this album,” he effused, regarding his version of ‘I Got Mine.’
Davies said he loved doing the cover of ‘Money Maker,’ and that “it was great fun to be part of this project. Cool rockin’ track.”
‘Black On Blues’ was mastered by Grammy-award winning Brian Lucey, who has mastered a number of the Black Keys albums including the band’s latest, ‘El Camino.’
