Boz Scaggs made a return visit to the Samala Showroom at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, CA. on September 12 and once again showed why he has been and continues to be a master of his craft. Boz Scaggs has seen it all, done it all and been a part of it all in the music world for over 50 years. From his early beginnings and friendship with Steve Miller, to his latest album project ‘Memphis,’ Boz has always shown integrity, appreciation, and a thorough professionalism in all the music he has ever released. And on this night once again, Boz surrounded himself with masterful musicians to accentuate what he offers. Boz Scaggs set up

Boz and his fantastic band took the stage in an understated manner and proceeded to capture the audience with ‘Runnin’ Blues,’ and two songs from the latest album ‘Memphis,’ ‘Dry Spell,’ and ‘Mixed Up Shook Up.’ After a stellar rendition of ‘Sierra,’ Scaggs talked about his friend F. Warren Hellman, who was a mainstay in the arts in Boz’s hometown of San Francisco. Boz talked about a memorial he played on the beach for the billionaire music aficionado, then went into acoustic versions of Tony Joe White’s ‘Rainy Night in Georgia,’ and the folk/blues standard ‘Corrina, Corrina.’ More cuts from ‘Memphis’ followed, as did his huge hits.

Boz Scaggs band

Boz played all the big hits and album tracks including ‘Georgia’ and ‘Miss Sun,’ which showcased the amazing vocal talents of Miss Monet Owens on a mash-up of Sly & The Family Stones’ ‘Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)’ and Sam and Dave’s ‘I Thank You.’ The crowd energy continued into his most well-know tracks ‘Lowdown’ and ‘Lido Shuffle.’ Boz and the band played two encores, with more tracks from ‘Memphis’ and one of his signature tunes ‘Breakdown.’ The show wrapped up with ‘Somebody Lend Me A Dime’ and no change was needed as the crowd thoroughly enjoyed the always on point and professional Boz Scaggs.
