Emerson, Lake & Palmer frontman Greg Lake is in the process of writing his autobiography, and he’s releasing the first part of the memoir as an audio book in conjunction with his impending North American tour. The trek, dubbed Songs of a Lifetime 2012 hit the U.S. in Boston last night and is scheduled through a May 26 concert in La Quinta, California.

Lake will perform ELP classics, King Crimson cuts, and he’ll share anecdotes about his long career and participating in Q&A sessions with audiences.

“The concept of performing an intimate and autobiographical show presents a huge challenge,” Lake said. “My experience of this format last tour [his 2010 outing with ELP keyboardist Keith Emerson] was so invigorating it still gives me a thrill every time I think about it.”

Lake will be selling updated editions of his solo albums and concert DVDs during the tour. The audio book is the first of three installments of the memoir that Lake is planning to make available in that format. A bound version of the autobiography is expected to be published near the end of 2012.
