Rock of Ages, the hit Broadway musical that stars Constantine Maurolis and featured Dee Snider of Twisted Sister during an 11-week run late last year, is going to the silver screen. Tom Cruise is set to star in the movie version as aging musician Stacee Jaxx. Director Adam Shankman – who helmed the hit screen musical of “Hairspray” in 2007 – believes the star will excel in the role.
Shankman told the Toronto Sun: “I think we’re going to see him every drop the rock’n’roll god. He’s pouring himself in this part in a way I’ve never had an actor do. It’s pretty intense. Between the voice lessons, the incredible study… researching the period, it’s like 1987, just going there!”
Cruise will perform several rock songs of the ’70s and ’80s, including Styx’s ‘Renegade’ and Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead Or Alive’. It is heavily rumoured that Anne Hathaway will soon sign on to the project, and will perform a duet of Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is” with Cruise.
Rumored to be taking on the role of “Dennis” that Dee played on Broadway is Alec Baldwin; Russell Brand is also said to be joining the lineup as the character of Lonny.
