Once again, I seem to have an issue with keeping up on my Rock Picks of the Week. I need to be diligent and make sure I post my picks week in and week out. That being said, expect another Rock Pick Ketchup soon, as I have created quite the backlog of picks, some of which are already falling down the rock charts, as they have been out for awhile. So heeeeeree we go: First up is Los Angeles band Rival Sons, who return with a new album released this Tuesday in the European market called ‘Head Down’ on Earache Records. Rival Sons have quickly gone to the top of my list of new favorite bands, with their retro, classic rock inspired sound. They have it all in their music; agression, subtlety, and amazing musicianship. The band has continued to target Europe, consistently touring there and building an amazing fanbase. Now they need to break huge in their homeland!  The band have released an amazing new music video for the track ‘Keep On Swinging,’ which you can see below. A North American release for ‘Head Down’ will happen in November.

The band once again worked with director Greg Ephraim, who has also shot Rival Sons music videos for ‘Pressure and Time’ and ‘All Over the Road’.

Vocalist Jay Buchanan commented on the video: “Shooting the video for Keep On Swinging was a pleasure. Snake handling while wailing to a congregation in an old church is pretty high up there on the list of odd ways to pass the time; excuse me while I go to hell.”

Rival Sons drummer Michael Miley added: “We recently returned from an exciting expedition; it was an adventure. The Spirit was moving in that room. We were playing in a church somewhere in the South (can’t reveal exact location) and had to convince this congregation we could be a musical catalyst for the casting out of demons; we succeeded. We had to tame snakes with our music. There was a swarm of ravens. A girl that was baptized was on fire! Crazy stuff! And it was all caught on tape… I’m sure it will be all over the interwebs soon. Be on the lookout.”

Pure awesomeness from Rival Sons!!

‘Lover Alot’ is the latest track released from Aerosmith’s forthcoming new album ‘Music From Another Dimension!’ slated to be released on November 6th.  While I was excited and relatively pleased with the first track released from the album ‘Legendary Child,’ this track is THE Aerosmith track I have been waiting for. It harks back to early Aerosmith songs in structure and delivery. It bodes well for the rest of the album, except for the AC ballad they have also recently released. I guess they have to try and get another ‘Angel’ or ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ out there. ‘Lover Alot’ is THE SHIT! and I love it alot!

Aerosmith recently posted part one of the making of their new album, which you can watch below and the band will be touring again in 2013, but only have one date slated, as part of the upcoming iHeartRadio Music Festival on Sept. 22nd in Las Vegas, NV.

Slash have released the second track from ‘Apocalyptic Love.’ ‘Standing In The Sun’ is another great track from an album that doesn’t have a weak link. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators have not only brought forth an album of great material, they have made their space as one of the great rock bands out there today. Let’s hope we get many more albums from this lineup of fantastic musicians.

Slash and the band are currently on a headlining U.S. tour with Foxy Shazam as the opener, and will follow that with a European tour with Mark Tremonti’s new band opening some of the shows. That should be interesting as Tremonti and vocalist Myles Kennedy are in Alter Bridge together. Add a couple of AB songs to the set I suppose.

Halestorm are back with another track in Rock Picks of the Week, ‘I Miss the Misery,’ the third single from their latest album ‘The Strange Case Of…’ ‘ It’s another powerful track from the band fronted by one of the most dynamic and talented females in rock, Lzzy Hale, who was recently named the hottest chick in hard rock by Revolver Magazine.

Halestorm recently wrapped up the Carnival of Madness U.S. tour with Evanescence, Chevelle, New Medicine and Cavo. At the El Paso, Texas tour stop on August 18th, another top female in rock, vocalist Amy Lee of Evanescence joined Lzzy Hale onstage for a duet on the Halestorm track ‘Break In.’

Hale posted, “El Paso tonight was the first night I’ve ever had a duet with a woman. Amy Lee rocked it with me on ‘Break In’! Love her!”

Lee responded, “I loved singing with you. Your voice shreds and that is my SONG right now! Thanks for letting me ‘Break In’ on your set tonight .”

Hale tweeted back, “The pleasure was all mine! It was so beautiful! You rule, babe! I’m so grateful for your friendship. You brought new life to ‘Break In.’”

Here’s Lzzy Hale in a clip from Beacon Audio as she reflects back on her “Beacon Moments”: each “decision, experience or choice that shapes the outcome of the rest of your life”.

Halestorm kick off a European tour September 21st in the U.K., and will make stops in Moscow and Toyko on Oct. 23rd and Oct. 27th. The band then returns for headlining dates in the U.S. starting Nov. 8th in Mobile, AL that will carry through to a New Year’s Eve show in Baltimore, MD.

‘Slow Drag,’ is the rocking new track from the great George Lynch and Lynch Mob. It is a straight ahead rocker featuring long time Lynch Mob vocalist Oni Logan. Top notch musicianship and production bring this track alive from the first note. The band shot this latest video for the track on June 29th in Houston, Texas with film producer W. Ross Wells of Zen Film. While in Houston, the band was also filmed for an upcoming episode of “Live From Sugar Hill”, a rare all-acoustic performance shot at Sugar Hill Studios by Grammy producer Dan Workman and Zen Film. “Live From Sugar Hill” is sponsored by Vitamin Water/Coca Cola, and will air soon.

‘Slow Drag’ comes off the band’s four-song EP, “Sound Mountain Sessions”, which was released on August 7th via Rat Pak Records.

‘Sound Mountain Sessions’ track listing:
1. Slow Drag
2. World Of Chance
3. City Of Freedom
4. Sucka

Lynch Mob has also tapped Brian Tichy (Whitesnake) as its new touring drummer for the upcoming summer shows in support of the band’s new release.

Lynch Mob is:
Oni Logan – vocals
George Lynch – guitar
Robbie Crane – bass
Brian Tichy – drums

Jesse James Dupree and Jackyl have released their latest studio album ‘Best In Show’, which is the follow-up to 2010’s ‘When Moonshine And Dynamite Collide,’ and celebrates the band’s 20th anniversary in the music business. The band hit the scene in 1990, and immediately began firing off rock radio hits like “Down On Me,” “When Will It Rain,” “I Stand Alone,” and most notably, “The Lumberjack” during which Dupree performs a chain-saw solo. The introduction of Jackyl’s fifth instrument on album and in concert quickly became one of the band’s many trademarks as the group blazed a path to infamy. The band has earned two Guinness Book of World Records citations and the designation “The Hardest working Band in Rock ‘N’ Roll” for performing 100 shows in 50 days as well as 21 shows in 24 hours. The new album features 12 tracks including covers of Run DMC and Dr. Hook and will be released through Mighty Loud Entertainment. An exclusive Best Buy deluxe edition of ‘Best In Show’ includes a bonus DVD and two extra tracks. Check out the album’s debut single, ‘Screwdriver’:

Jackyl upcoming tour dates:
Sep. 13 & 14 – Ocean City, MD – OC Bike Fest
Sep. 15 – Howland, ME – Seboeis Stream Campground
