Sebastian Bach hung out with American Idol contestant and rocker James Durbin this past Monday (June 13) and Seb said Durbin told him he wanted to perform a Skid Row song, but was told he couldn’t.

Bach said on Facebook: “Interesting. Hanging with James Durbin from ‘American Idol’. He tells me he wanted to sing (the Skid Row song) ’18 And Life’ on ‘American Idol’ but was told he’s not allowed to, it’s ‘not cleared.’ Who makes these decisions and why? How? He was told he could do a Bon Jovi song but not Skid Row. Very interesting. And shitty.”

Durbin performed Judas Priest’s “Living After Midnight” and “Breaking The Law” with the British heavy metal legends themselves during the “American Idol” finale and rocked the classic “You Got Another Thing Coming” on the March 1 edition of “Idol”. Durbin told USA Today last month that he is planning to record an album, with what he described as a “(Dio) ‘Holy Diver’, (Black Sabbath) ‘Neon Knights’-type” feel. “I potentially heard my first single yesterday,” he said, adding that it “still has a heavy edge and is radio friendly.” He plans to reunite with a friend from home who will be his lead guitarist. He also hopes to work with Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater.

Sebastian Bach has set “Kicking & Screaming” as the title of his new solo album, due on September 27 via Frontiers Records. The CD was produced by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Atreyu, Filter) and features young guitar virtuoso Nick Sterling and drummer Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Riot, Iced Earth). The follow-up to 2007’s “Angel Down” was mastered at Precision Mastering in Los Angeles with Tom Baker.

Bach says, “I could not be happier with my new album, ‘Kicking & Screaming’. The songs, performances and sound quality are beyond what I could have ever imagined. This is my best record yet and I can’t wait for all of you to crank it!”

The “Kicking & Screaming” album cover will be created by artist Richard Villa. According to Sebastian, it will feature “the hottest model in the land”, presumably referring to his new girlfriend, 25-year-old model Minnie Gupta, “and reflect the lyrics as well as the brutality of the music. It’s gonna be rock ‘n’ roll to the 9th degree album — very heavy, cool, trippy and nightmare-ish.”
